Position Overview

  • The Technology Product Owner is responsible for product ownership of technical capabilities supporting the Digital Banking Experience (DBX), with a primary focus on data migration, customer conversion, batch processing, data integration, and related platform capabilities.
  • This role performs the core responsibilities of a Product Owner, including backlog ownership, prioritization, requirement refinement, story acceptance, dependency management, and delivery planning, but requires a significantly stronger technical background than a traditional business-focused Product Owner.
  • The Technology Product Owner will report within Technology and work in close partnership with Product Owners, Business stakeholders, Engineering, Architecture, Data, Testing, and Operations. Business and Product partners remain accountable for defining business needs, business rules, customer outcomes, and the overall “why” and “what.” The Technology Product Owner translates that direction into an actionable technology backlog and drives the technical capabilities necessary to deliver those outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities

Product Ownership & Delivery

  • Own and prioritize the technology backlog for assigned DBX capabilities.
  • Translate Product and Business objectives into features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical requirements.
  • Partner with Product Owners, Engineering, and Architecture to align priorities, solution approaches, dependencies, risks, and tradeoffs.
  • Lead backlog refinement and participate in sprint planning, PI planning, demos, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies.
  • Ensure delivered capabilities meet functional and technical expectations.
  • Coordinate cross-team and upstream/downstream dependencies, escalating gaps, risks, and decisions as needed.

Data Migration & Conversion

  • Partner with Engineering and Data teams to define source-to-target requirements, mappings, transformations, validation, and reconciliation.
  • Support customer and account conversion strategies, migration waves, seed files, batch files, and related data requirements.
  • Understand conversion scenarios across Consumer, Business, and Wealth customer populations.
  • Support mock conversions, migration readiness, and resolution of data quality issues and exceptions.
  • Define reconciliation and validation criteria to ensure migration completeness and accuracy.
  • Translate business conversion requirements into executable technical backlog items.

Technical & Platform Ownership

  • Develop a strong understanding of the DBX technology ecosystem, data flows, APIs, batch processing, file-based integrations, and system dependencies.
  • Partner with Engineering on platform enhancements, technical enablers, defects, and technical debt.
  • Assess upstream and downstream impacts of technology changes.
  • Facilitate cross-functional technical discussions across Product, Engineering, Architecture, Data, Testing, and Operations.
  • Identify ownership gaps across teams or systems and drive resolution.

Operational Readiness

  • Ensure capabilities are designed with production support and operational readiness in mind.
  • Support runbooks for migration, batch, and production processes.
  • Ensure exception handling, reconciliation, monitoring, recovery, and support requirements are incorporated into the backlog.
  • Partner with Engineering, SRE/Production Support, Testing, and Operations on production readiness.
  • Ensure conversion plans include clear execution, validation, exception management, and rollback procedures.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 6 years’ business, analytical, technical and/or product experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 10 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 6 years’ business, analytical, technical and/or product experience.
  • Product Ownership experience managing and prioritizing complex technology backlogs, translating business needs into technical requirements, and partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Architecture, Data, and Testing teams.
  • Strong data migration and conversion experience.
  • Technical fluency across SQL, relational databases, APIs, data models, integration patterns, and system dependencies.
  • Agile delivery experience, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, and PI or large-scale planning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data/Analytics, Business, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience supporting core or digital banking conversions, customer/account migrations, or other large-scale data conversions.
  • Exposure to banking platforms, customer and account data, entitlements, data reconciliation, and regulatory/data-control environments is highly valued.
  • Product Owner or Agile certification such as CSPO, SAFe POPM, or equivalent is beneficial.
  • Experience with enterprise Agile delivery and tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience supporting major technology modernization or platform transformation initiatives.
  • Experience operating in complex environments involving multiple applications, vendors, and technology teams.
