Product Test Engineer

The role

This is a brand-new position and the first dedicated testing role at Takomo, which means there’s no old playbook to inherit. You write it. Reporting to the Head of Product, you will design our test standards, run the prototype and benchmark programs, and turn measurements into the performance data our designers rely on. You will work closely with Marketing, Operations, Tech and Customer Experience, and stay in direct contact with our manufacturing partners.

You will be based at our Turku office with a hybrid work model. Because the job involves hands-on testing with equipment that lives at the office, you will need to be on-site at certain times to get your work done, and we’ll agree on what that looks like together.

What you will do

Prototype testing and validation

• Plan and run prototype test rounds across all product categories, then analyze and archive the results

• Run robot and player testing, capture launch monitor data, and test how clubs sound, look and hold up: durability, fatigue and cosmetic wear included

• Turn results into clear design recommendations and present them at design reviews and in day-to-day work with the team

• Provide the validation data each product needs to pass its development gates

Benchmarking

• Systematically benchmark competing products across every category

• Maintain our competitive performance database and write benchmark reports that shape our roadmap and positioning

Test systems and product data

• Develop and document Takomo’s testing standards and protocols, including calibration, repeatability and measurement uncertainty

• Build our internal testing infrastructure, so we know exactly how good a product is before launch, compared with our earlier generations and with the market

• Specify, commission and maintain our measurement equipment, and make the case for new investments together with the Head of Product

• Define how performance data is structured, validated and shared internally

• Align our test data with our manufacturing partners’ data, so everyone works from the same numbers

Quality support

• Act as technical lead supporting QA on serious quality issues: failure analysis, root cause investigation and verification of corrective actions with our factory partners

What we are looking for

Must have

• Experience or a degree in test engineering, validation, or mechanical/product engineering, ideally in sporting goods

• Strong measurement and data analysis skills: statistics, repeatability, measurement uncertainty, and R, MATLAB or advanced spreadsheet work

• Hands-on experience with test equipment, fixtures and instrumentation

• Experience with launch monitors (TrackMan, Foresight, GCQuad or similar)

• A genuine passion for golf, or deep knowledge of it, through playing or industry exposure

• Professional fluency in English, written and spoken

Nice to have

• Experience with swing robots

• Club fitting knowledge, or experience building a test program from scratch

• Familiarity with CAD and FEA

• Experience working directly with international factories and their quality teams

• Fluency in Finnish or Chinese
