Role Overview:

The Production Planning Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the S&OP plan is properly fulfilled and translated into an effective Master Production Schedule that supports customer requirements and incoming production volumes. This role ensures that critical capacity needs are identified, addressed, and communicated on time, including confirmation of headcount requirements and operational constraints. The position is also responsible for ensuring that work orders are properly managed in the ERP system to trigger accurate production signals, confirm component availability, secure finished goods inventory availability for critical distribution centers, and support reliable execution of the production plan. This role also ensures that ERP information remains accurate and updated to protect inventory visibility, order management integrity, and planning execution.

Work Environment: Hybrid role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and lead the S&OP process, ensuring demand, capacity, material availability, inventory strategy, backlog, and business priorities are reviewed, aligned, and translated into clear planning actions.
  • Monitor and follow up on key production planning metrics, including OTD, production adherence, MPS adherence, backlog, schedule attainment, capacity utilization, work order execution, component availability, and finished goods inventory availability.
  • Supervise the translation of the S&OP plan into the Master Production Schedule, ensuring the planning team maintains schedules that support customer requirements, demand changes, production priorities, and confirmed incoming production volumes.
  • Review and validate planning actions intended to reduce DQ, pull volumes ahead when required, and support proper fulfillment of forecast, budget, and customer commitments.
  • Track critical capacity requirements, operational constraints, and headcount needs identified by the planning team, ensuring timely escalation, follow-up, and alignment with production and leadership.
  • Oversee work order management in the ERP system to ensure accurate production signals, proper sequencing, component availability confirmation, and reliable production execution in compliance with monthly LV updates.
  • Ensure ERP planning information is maintained accurately by the team, including planning parameters, schedules, order dates, work order status, inventory visibility, and order management information needed to protect planning integrity.
  • Monitor finished goods inventory availability for critical distribution centers and ensure the team follows up on production priorities, customer requirements, safety stocks, and replenishment signals.
  • Review and jointly manage excess and obsolete inventory (E&O) with the Materials Planning team by monitoring inventory risks, identifying root causes, defining mitigation and consumption plans, and following up on actions to reduce financial exposure and prevent recurrence.
  • Develop capacity and production scenarios to evaluate changes in demand, backlog, headcount, operating patterns, equipment availability, and customer priorities, providing recommendations to support the S&OP decision-making process.
  • Coordinate escalation and follow-up with production, materials planning, procurement, logistics, warehousing, quality, and customer service teams to resolve planning issues and support customer order execution.
  • Lead daily and weekly planning reviews with the team to confirm priorities, review open risks, assign follow-up actions, and verify completion of critical planning deliverables.
  • Manage and develop production planning team members by setting expectations, assigning responsibilities, reviewing performance, providing feedback, and supporting individual development plans.
  • Build planning capability within the team through training, standard work, process discipline, problem-solving routines, cross-training, and continuous improvement of planning practices.
  • Promote accountability, collaboration, and clear communication within the planning team and across functions, ensuring actions are completed on time and risks are escalated before they impact customers.
  • Promote safety, compliance, and the IMI Way by ensuring planning activities are performed in alignment with company procedures, values, Occupational Safety and Health System requirements, and expected behaviors.
  • Lead or sponsor continuous improvement initiatives and key projects with internal teams and other facilities to improve MPS accuracy, lead times, material flow, planning discipline, ERP data quality, and overall plant performance.

Critical Competencies for Success:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in production planning, master production scheduling, materials planning, supply chain, or similar manufacturing planning roles, preferably with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience leading, coordinating, or supervising planning activities, cross-functional follow-up, and production schedule execution in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
