PMO CONSULTANT – INSURANCE FINANCE TRANSFORMATION
About the Role
- Role: PMO Consultant
- Client sector: Insurance
- Programme: Technology transformation: implementation of a new finance system
- Duration: 12-month engagement
- Location: Remote, with two days on site in the UK at the start for induction
- Experience: 3–5 years in PMO or Programme delivery roles
- Background: Big Four or similar consulting experience ideal
- Start date: Immediately
We are looking for a PMO Consultant to join our team on a 12-month engagement with an insurance client. The client is running a technology transformation programme, with the implementation of a new finance system at its centre. You will sit in the programme management office and keep the programme organised, visible and on track. That means owning the plan, the reporting and the governance rhythm, and giving programme leadership a clear and honest picture of progress, risk and cost. As part of a small consultancy, you will have real ownership from day one. You will work directly with senior client stakeholders across Finance and Technology, and with the system integrator and other third-party suppliers.
Responsibilities
Planning and control
- Build and maintain the integrated programme plan across workstreams, including milestones, dependencies and the critical path.
- Track progress against plan, challenge workstream leads on dates, and flag slippage early.
- Manage change control, assessing the impact of change requests on scope, schedule and budget.
Governance and reporting
- Run the governance calendar: steering committees, programme boards and workstream checkpoints.
- Produce weekly and monthly status reports and steering committee packs that are concise and decision-focused.
- Record actions and decisions, and follow them through to closure.
Risk, issues and dependencies
- Own the RAID log and make sure every item has an owner, a date and a mitigation.
- Escalate risks and issues to programme leadership with a clear view of impact and options.
- Coordinate dependencies between Finance, Technology, data migration, testing and business change workstreams.
Delivery support
- Support key phases of the finance system implementation, including design, data migration, testing, cutover and hyper-care.
- Set up and improve PMO standards, templates and tooling so they are proportionate to the programme.
- Help the programme meet the audit and control expectations of a regulated insurer.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in a PMO, project or programme delivery role.
Required Skills
- Experience on a technology or finance transformation programme, ideally an ERP or finance system implementation.
- Strong grasp of PMO disciplines: planning, RAID management, governance, change control, reporting and financial tracking.
- Confident producing clear, well-structured reports and board packs for senior audiences.
- Able to build credibility quickly with client stakeholders and challenge constructively.
- Self-directed and organised, and comfortable working remotely with limited supervision.
- Proficient in MS Project or a similar planning tool, plus Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
Preferred Skills
- Background at a Big Four firm or comparable consultancy.
- Insurance or wider financial services experience, with an understanding of the regulated environment.
- Exposure to finance systems such as Oracle Fusion / SAP S/4HANA
- Understanding of finance processes such as record to report, month-end close and regulatory reporting.
- A delivery qualification such as PRINCE2, MSP, APM PMQ, P3O or a Scrum/Agile certification.
- Experience of hybrid delivery, combining waterfall planning with Agile workstreams.
Pay Rate
€200-275 Euro Per Day
Working Arrangements
- Remote: the role is remote for the length of the engagement.
- Induction: one day on site at the start of project, to meet the client and programme team.
- Duration: 12 months.
- Engagement type: Contract
- Eligibility: Right-to-work in Europe
