100% Remote within California, Must reside in California
This is a full-time, limited-term position for 24 months.
The California Education Learning Laboratory (Learning Lab) is a state-funded public higher education grant program designed to improve learning outcomes and close equity gaps in STEM and other disciplines. Learning Lab seeks to fund innovative, intersegmental, faculty-led projects that leverage technology tools and the science of human learning to foster student success. Learning Lab is administered by the Foundation for California Community Colleges (FoundationCCC) on behalf of and in partnership with the California Government Operations Agency (GovOps).
What You’ll Do
Under the direction of Learning Lab’s Executive Director and Deputy Director, the Program Officer for Mathematics Initiatives will be the lead staff member to drive continued advancement of the California Mathematics Alignment Project and related recommendations in its Roadmap for Transforming Mathematics Education in California (for grades 9-14) (“Roadmap”), which will consist of the following: overseeing professional learning initiatives, research projects, and/or pilot initiatives; grants development, execution, and management; support for policy development, outreach, and implementation; stakeholder engagement and contractor management; strategic communications; and evaluation support. The Program Officer will also oversee Learning Lab’s existing portfolio of mathematics grant projects, as necessary. The Program Officer position is a limited-term employment opportunity that is anticipated to span 24 months, with opportunity for renewal. Percent time is between 75%-100% (30-40 hours per week), depending on availability.
- Conduct research and interviews related to and in support of new grant opportunities, research projects, professional learning initiatives, pilot initiatives, etc.
- Support continued policy development and implementation related to the Roadmap.
- Develop and manage strategic outreach and communications, including public facing materials, to engage prospective applicants and/or recruit participants.
- Responsible for overseeing entire RFP processes from launch to facilitation of grant awards, including compliance with state requirements.
- For existing and new grantees, provide technical assistance; approve invoices and budget and scope-of-work change requests; and conduct check-ins and cohort meetings to support grantees and encourage community building as they execute their projects.
- Develop or oversee the development of research briefs or reports related to the Roadmap’s recommendations.
- Grow Learning Lab’s mathematics and related communities.
- Facilitate Substack posts, LinkedIn posts, and other media coverage as necessary.
- Serve as Learning Lab’s primary point of contact and liaise with various constituencies, external groups, contracted entities related to mathematics education.
- Recruit and manage peer review processes, selection committees, and briefings on process and awards as necessary.
Attributes for Success
- Minimum of eight (8)+ years of experience researching, analyzing, and synthesizing data, program development, and communications.
- Research and evaluation experience.
- Prior experience managing or developing a program preferred.
- Experience with strategic communications preferred.
- Understanding of and experience working in public higher education systems, policy, and research in California.
- Understanding of and experience working with K-12 secondary systems of education and California state agencies, boards, and commissions preferred.
- Experience working directly with higher education faculty and/or K-12 teachers preferred.
- Knowledge of policy and research related to mathematics education in California.
- Experience developing and implementing funding opportunities or RFPs.
- Experience with higher education grantmaking opportunities for UC, CSU, and California Community Colleges.

Budgeted Annual Salary Pay Range:
$95,000.00 - $120,000.00Final salary and rates are based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity.
