Project Control Analyst w/ Construction Experience
Location: Northern Virginia (Herndon, VA) / Hybrid / Remote
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Summary
HunaTek is seeking a Project Control Analyst to provide financial and project controls support across a portfolio of federal government contracts. The position will have a particular focus on our construction management projects, which are fairly small and involve HunaTek providing project and construction management. The analyst may also support professional services, technical, and other non-construction government contracts within HunaTek’s portfolio.
This position will work closely with Project Managers, Accounting, Contracts, and company leadership to monitor project financial performance, maintain accurate forecasts, track commitments and costs, and provide timely visibility into revenue, backlog, billing, and project profitability. The ideal candidate has strong project financial management and analytical skills, along with experience supporting construction projects and an understanding of how subcontract commitments, change orders, project schedules, billings, and cost-to-complete estimates affect project results. Experience with Unanet GovCon is strongly preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
- Work directly with Project Managers to develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and estimates at completion (EACs) for construction and non-construction projects, keeping the Unanet ERP system up to date.
- Monitor project actual costs, commitments, and remaining costs against contract value and budget.
- Maintain visibility into subcontract awards, commitments, invoices, and change orders.
- Track customer and subcontractor change orders and incorporate approved and anticipated changes into project forecasts as appropriate.
- Review project financial results and investigate significant cost, revenue, billing, and margin variances.
- Support monthly project billing and accurate revenue recognition, and reconcile billed, unbilled, and recognized revenue.
- Review project costs for appropriate project, task, and cost-code charging.
- Prepare monthly project financial reports and clearly communicate significant variances, trends, and risks.
- Identify opportunities to improve project forecasting, reporting, and financial controls.
Skills and Qualification Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 5+ years of project controls, project financial analysis, construction accounting, or similar experience, including experience supporting construction projects.
- Experience working directly with project managers to develop and maintain reliable project budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
- Strong Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, pivot tables, and analysis of large datasets.
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with excellent attention to detail.
Skills and Qualifications Preferred:
- Experience with Unanet GovCon, particularly project setup, budgeting, forecasting, billing, revenue, and project reporting.
- Experience supporting federal government contracts, including construction management and professional or technical services.
- Familiarity with federal contracting concepts, including funding, modifications, CLINs, task orders, and subcontracting.
- Familiarity with FAR requirements and government contract cost principles.
- Experience with multiple federal contract types, including Firm-Fixed-Price, Time & Materials, and Cost-Reimbursable contracts.
