Equinix is the world’s digital infrastructure company®, shortening the path to connectivity to enable the innovations that enrich our work, life and planet.

A place where bold ideas are welcomed, human connection is valued, and everyone has the opportunity to shape their future.

A career at Equinix means being at the center of shaping what comes next and amplifying customer value through innovation and impact. You’ll work across teams, influence key decisions, and help shape the path forward. Role Overview:

The Project Director leads complex, high-priority initiatives that advance Global Markets business objectives. Working closely with regional Presidents, country leaders and executive sponsors, the role translates strategic priorities and ambiguous business challenges into clear recommendations, executable plans and measurable business outcomes.

This role provides leadership across the full program lifecycle, from discovery and solution design through execution and transition to business ownership. Programs may include market expansion initiatives, customer migrations, IBX closures, infrastructure lifecycle programs, integration activities and other enterprise-wide priorities.

Operating with significant autonomy, the Project Director establishes governance, alignment and delivery structures where scope, ownership or execution approaches are not yet clearly defined, driving results through influence in a global matrix environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy & Program Design

  • Define business problems, outcomes, success measures and scope with executive sponsors.
  • Assess options, risks, impacts and delivery feasibility, providing clear recommendations and trade-offs.
  • Develop program charters, delivery plans, governance structures, resource requirements and funding models.
  • Establish sponsorship, accountability, decision-making frameworks and escalation paths.

Executive Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Partner with senior leaders as a trusted advisor and delivery leader.
  • Align cross-functional teams across Sales, Customer Success, Operations, Finance, Legal, IT, Product and Corporate Development.
  • Resolve competing priorities, drive accountability and secure delivery commitments.
  • Guide program managers and workstream leads through effective planning, execution and communication.

Delivery & Business Outcomes

  • Lead programs end-to-end, integrating commercial, operational, technical and customer dependencies.
  • Manage risks, issues, critical paths, resources and change impacts.
  • Partner with Finance to evaluate business cases, budgets, forecasts and investment decisions.
  • Ensure operational readiness, customer continuity and successful transition to business ownership.

Governance & Portfolio Leadership

  • Design and lead governance forums, executive reporting, decision management and risk oversight.
  • Support portfolio prioritization by assessing strategic value, complexity, risk and delivery capacity.
  • Strengthen PMO standards, delivery frameworks and best practices across regions.
  • Provide oversight and coaching to improve program delivery performance and execution confidence.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Typically 10+ years leading complex projects and programs in multinational, matrixed organizations.
  • Proven success partnering with executive sponsors to deliver measurable business, customer and operational outcomes.
  • Strong ability to define and solve ambiguous business challenges, develop recommendations and establish effective delivery models.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams across multiple geographies and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, including business cases, budgeting, forecasting and benefits realization.
  • Experience with customer transitions, infrastructure lifecycle programs, market initiatives, integrations or enterprise transformations.
  • Experience in data center, colocation or digital infrastructure environments is preferred.
  • Proficiency with program management and reporting tools.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience; project or program management certification desirable.
