About American Client

American Client is a growing, founder-led electrical engineering firm serving architects, contractors, and building owners across New England. We turn complex electrical requirements into clear, constructible solutions, keeping projects on track and decisions simple before they become costly problems. This is a ground-floor opportunity to help build the team and shape the firm as it grows.

We're most proud of:

  • Direct access to the founder, no layers of management.
  • A growing portfolio spanning multifamily, commercial, and historic adaptive-reuse projects.
  • A culture built on ownership and follow-through, not titles or tenure.
  • Investing early in our people through profit-sharing, licensure support, and a strong onboarding package.

The Opportunity

Join American Client as a Project Electrical Design Engineer and work directly with our Founder and Principal Engineer on building electrical design for renovation and new-construction projects across New England.

  • You will work directly with the Founder, not through layers of management, designing power distribution, lighting and controls, fire alarm and life safety, emergency/backup power, and low-voltage systems.
  • 100% remote, open to candidates anywhere in the U.S., with a preference (not a requirement) for candidates based in Massachusetts or Rhode Island.

What We're Looking For

  • 5-7+ years of professional electrical engineering experience, with a strong focus on building/AEC electrical design (no PE license required).
  • Working knowledge of the NEC, energy codes, and life-safety requirements.
  • Experience with load calculations, service sizing, panel schedules, and code-compliance reviews.
  • Ability to produce clear construction documents and specifications and to respond to RFIs and review submittals.
  • Comfortable managing remote/contract drafting and modeling resources, you don't need a big in-house CAD team to move fast.
  • Ability to take a basic design and carry it through to detailed engineering with minimal oversight: this role requires real autonomy, not just execution against instructions.
  • Strong, clear communicator who can explain technical decisions to non-engineers and keep architects, contractors, utilities, and AHJs coordinated.
  • Self-directed and organized, comfortable owning projects in a remote, fast-moving, startup-style environment (this is a small founder-led firm, not a 150-person engineering firm).
  • Uses company standards, checklists, and systems to complete work and improves them instead of working around them.
  • Anticipates needs, proactively manages others, and doesn't wait to be told what to do.
  • Takes extreme ownership: doesn't blame people or circumstances, fixes problems, closes loops, and keeps learning.

Work Authorization Requirements

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • American Client will not sponsor applicants for work visas now or in the future.

What We Offer

  • Base salary of $120k, with first-year total compensation up to $150k+.
  • 100% remote work, open nationwide (preference for MA/RI).
  • Profit-sharing: 1–9% of base salary annually.
  • Quarterly bonus potential.
  • Unlimited, fully flexible PTO.
  • Up to $10,000 sign-on bonus.
  • $2,000 home office stipend (rolls over to health/fitness if unused).
  • Health & fitness stipend, at American Client's discretion.
  • PE licensure and continuing education fully reimbursed.
  • Mileage reimbursement for site visits and business travel at the standard IRS rate.
  • Ground-floor opportunity to help shape a growing firm and earn increasing responsibility as it scales.

A note on transparency: this is an early-stage firm and doesn't yet offer health insurance; it's on the roadmap as it grows. The rest of the package is built to reward the people who help get there.
