As an Engineer-in-Training (EIT), you will work closely alongside Professional Engineers to support the planning and design of major transportation infrastructure—including roadways, bridges, LRT corridors, active transportation, and alignment studies—in alignment with Edmonton's growth under The City Plan. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience, tackle complex technical challenges, and build the competencies required to achieve your P.Eng. designation. If you are an enthusiastic engineering graduate looking to grow your career within a collaborative, supportive environment, we invite you to apply.

What will you do?

  • Assist in the planning, design, and execution of transportation infrastructure projects and strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards
  • Liaise with technical professionals to develop concept and preliminary engineering drawings based on City design and construction standards, guidelines and policies.
  • Support, coordinate and/or conduct meetings, workshops and liaise with other business units at the City
  • Support project engagement and communications, assist in responding to public and Council inquiries, and coordinate with internal and external partners and interested parties alongside Communications & Engagement teams
  • Coordinate on-site meetings and visits to support project development (scope definition, feasibility studies, public engagement activities, etc.)
  • Assist in identifying project risks and implementing safety plans, while learning best practices for contract compliance and Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) standards
  • Manage contract administration, consultant procurement, claims management and consultant performance evaluations
  • Maintain thorough project documentation, prepare background materials, and contribute to formal reports for executive leadership and City Council
  • Prepare, update, and maintain project management documentation as per the City’s Project Development and Delivery Model (PDDM) and use project management best practices to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and within scope
  • Actively participate in mentoring programs, professional development opportunities, and continuous improvement initiatives to build engineering and project management competencies

  • Collaboration & Adaptability: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams, take initiative, and adapt in a learning-focused environment. Proven planning, organizational and problem solving skills and the ability to prioritize work with multiple competing deadlines
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for writing clear technical summaries, documentation, and communicating with diverse project partners
  • Alignment with our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies
