Project Management Intern

Blue Oak Consulting

Is this job info correct?
The Project Management Intern will help organize and track the financial assumptions and project milestones for a significant engagement involving a Rome-based infrastructure client. This role is designed for an entry level professional who wants to learn how to manage complex advisory work by focusing on the logic and data behind every commercial decision.

About Blue Oak Consulting
Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.

The Role
As an intern, you will work directly with our principals to manage the flow of information and ensure that specific workstreams for our Rome-based infrastructure project stay on schedule. This is a fully remote position that requires a high level of self discipline and clear communication. You will not just be updating calendars: you will be expected to understand the financial context of the tasks you are tracking and ask questions when variables do not align with the original project plan. This role is an opportunity to see how professional skepticism and financial discipline are applied to large scale physical assets and long term investment cycles.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Tracking project timelines and milestones for our current work with a Rome-based infrastructure group to ensure all team members stay aligned.
  • Reviewing financial data sets to ensure the inputs used in our models remain current and accurate as new information arrives.
  • Assisting in the collection of pricing and cost data from client documentation to test the strength of growth assumptions.
  • Drafting internal status reports that highlight potential risks in the project timeline or gaps in the available data.
  • Organizing digital workrooms and ensuring that all project documentation is categorized logically for the senior team.
  • Participating in internal review sessions where we challenge the commercial logic of specific investment decisions.
  • Coordinating communication between different workstreams to ensure that insights from one area of the project inform the others.
  • Learning to use basic financial modeling tools to assist with scenario analysis and data verification.

What You Bring
  • Completion of or current enrollment in a degree program in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related quantitative field.
  • A strong grasp of Microsoft Excel and a willingness to learn more advanced formulas and data management techniques.
  • The ability to look at a spreadsheet and notice when a number seems out of place or inconsistent with the narrative.
  • Excellent written communication skills with a focus on logic and clarity rather than professional jargon.
  • A skeptical mindset that prefers to see the evidence and the math before accepting a conclusion.
  • Comfort working in a fully remote setup where proactive updates and independent work are essential for success.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple small tasks without losing track of the main goal.
  • A basic understanding of financial statements and the ability to follow a logic chain from investment to return.

What We Offer
  • Direct access to the firm's principals and the opportunity to learn how high-stakes advisory work is actually done at a senior level.
  • The flexibility of a fully remote work environment that rewards results rather than hours spent at a desk.
  • Practical training in financial analysis and project management methodologies used in private equity and corporate advisory.
  • A professional setting that values directness and logic over office politics or corporate theater.
  • A competitive monthly salary for the internship period that reflects the value you bring to the team.
  • Experience working on complex, international infrastructure projects with significant economic stakes.
  • A structured environment that encourages curiosity and rewards those who find errors or inconsistencies in the data.

We believe that the best project managers are those who understand the work they are managing, not just the tools used to track it. At Blue Oak Consulting, you will be encouraged to dive into the numbers and understand why a specific commercial decision is being made. This role is a starting point for someone who values financial discipline and wants to see how logic-based skepticism can lead to better business outcomes. We take our work seriously and expect our interns to do the same, providing a foundation for a career built on real-world results and analytical integrity.
