POSITION SUMMARY This position is part of the Project Management Office (PMO) within the Planning and Performance (P&P) team, which leads organizational planning, supports strategic initiatives, develops business cases, and enables data-informed decision-making across the Alliance. Reporting to the Director, Planning and Performance, the Project Manager coordinates and facilitates the full project management lifecycle, from initiation through implementation and evaluation. The role works closely with project sponsors, product owners, subject-matter experts, and cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery and strategic alignment. The Project Manager supports effective project governance, planning, communication, risk management, and performance tracking to help ensure initiatives progress successfully and achieve intended outcomes. Key responsibilities include project planning, business case development, establishing KPIs, managing risks and dependencies, and evaluating performance outcomes. The Alliance is recruiting for two Project Managers. Both positions share the same reporting relationship, responsibilities, qualifications. One position will primarily support initiatives related to Research Data Management (RDM) and the Canadian Research Data Platform (CRDP), while the other will primarily support initiatives related to Advanced Research Computing (ARC) and associated digital research infrastructure. RESPONSIBILITIES Project Management Lead project planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting activities, ensuring alignment with project objectives, timelines, budgets, quality expectations, and stakeholder requirements. Facilitate collaboration among project contributors by coordinating activities, tracking deliverables, identifying dependencies, supporting issue resolution, and helping maintain progress toward project objectives. Monitor project scope, schedule, risks, dependencies, change requests, quality considerations, and budget activities throughout the project life cycle to support successful completion within established parameters. Utilize project management tools and software to track progress, dependencies, and resource allocation. Support alignment of project deliverables with broader organizational strategic goals and initiatives. Relationships and Change Management Collaborate with project sponsors, product owners, cross-functional teams, and senior leadership to ensure shared understanding, effective governance, and accountability. Support project governance activities by facilitating discussions, documenting decisions, tracking action items, and escalating risks or issues as appropriate. Develop and maintain stakeholder engagement plans, communication strategies, change management activities, and risk registers to support project progress and effective adoption of project outcomes. Portfolio Planning and Management Coordinate with subject-matter experts and stakeholders to support the development of project plans, timelines, resource requirements, funding calls, and performance measures. Support project evaluations and post-implementation reviews to assess outcomes, identify lessons learned, and contribute to continuous improvement. Provide regular project reporting, status updates, forecasting, and analysis to the PMO and leadership as required. Contribute to the creation and maintenance of portfolio dashboards and executive summaries for senior decision makers. Portfolio and Organizational Supports Maintain knowledge of evolving project management practices and support the ongoing development of PMO processes, tools, documentation, and controls. Support the adoption and integration of project management best practices across the Alliance. Support portfolio-level planning and prioritization in collaboration with leadership. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in project delivery and performance. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least five years of experience supporting and coordinating cross-functional projects within complex organizations, preferably within the public sector, academic research, or technology environments. Experience managing multiple projects within a portfolio with varied objectives, stakeholders, and technical domains. Experience supporting and coordinating activities across subject matter experts, project contributors, and stakeholders to support successful project delivery, preferably within the academic research public sector environment. Experience supporting initiatives related to Advanced Research Computing (ARC), including research infrastructure, computer environments, hardware requirements, networking, or technical service delivery, is considered an asset. Demonstrated experience supporting Research Data Management (RDM) initiatives, particularly within large-scale or federated research collaborations, is considered an asset. Knowledge of RDM concepts, including FAIR data principles, metadata standards, data preservation, interoperability, and data governance, is considered an asset. Proficiency with project management tools and documentation, including charters, communication plans, RACI charts, risk mitigation, change management plans, and project closure reports. Strong interpersonal, client service, and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to work collaboratively across stakeholder groups. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with effective time and priority management. Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset. Proven ability to coordinate discussions and support alignment on project parameters (e.g. costs, timelines, standards, quality) with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, and consultants. Experience participating in procurement processes and contracting processes, including Request for Proposals (RFPs) development. Ability to work with discretion and maintain confidentiality. Professional Certifications/Memberships: PMP Certification, PROSCI and/or Change Management Certification are considered an asset. Knowledge of SCRUM, AGILE, ITIL, or similar frameworks, is considered an asset.
