Summary of the Role

As a Project Manager, Distributed Generation on Core States Group’s Distributed Generation team, you will lead engineering projects involving generator-based power systems from planning and utility coordination through design and construction support. You will bring clients, utilities, equipment providers, and multidisciplinary teams together to turn operating needs and interconnection requirements into safe, coordinated, buildable electrical solutions. This role is for a motivated, technically inclined leader who enjoys solving complex power system challenges, taking ownership, and helping a team do its best work.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-disciplined distributed generation and generator projects, managing scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks, and client communication from kickoff through delivery.
  • Develop and coordinate electrical design packages for generator installations, including one-line diagrams, site plans, equipment connections, feeders, grounding and bonding, auxiliary power, and protection and control interfaces.
  • Apply strong electrical fundamentals to evaluate generator/BESS manufacturer information, equipment ratings, breakers and disconnects, cable and conduit sizing, current and voltage transformers, relay functions, and system grounding.
  • Coordinate utility interconnection applications, technical requirements, design reviews, and approvals; help ensure project designs address applicable utility standards, IEEE 1547, NEC, NESC, and other governing codes and requirements.
  • Work closely with civil, mechanical, structural, and other engineering disciplines, as well as clients, utilities, vendors, authorities having jurisdiction, and contractors, to resolve design and constructability issues.
  • Lead drawing and specification reviews, incorporate client and authority comments, and maintain consistent, accurate project documents across disciplines.
  • Guide quality reviews of electrical plans, equipment selections, calculations, labels, and project deliverables; identify risks early and develop practical solutions that protect safety, reliability, schedule, and budget.
  • Support equipment coordination, installation, and project acceptance by helping resolve technical questions and keeping stakeholders aligned.
  • Prepare and manage project plans, proposals and contracts in accordance with project goals.
  • Manage permitting requirements for distributed generation projects, including preparing and submitting permit applications, tracking approvals, and coordinating with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to resolve comments and keep projects on schedule.
  • Build trusted client relationships, recognize opportunities to improve service, and contribute to new project pursuits.

Qualifications

We’re looking for talented professionals who are eager to grow their skills and contribute to high-quality, meaningful work. If you’re driven, collaborative, and ready to take the next step in your career, we want to hear from you. The following qualifications will help you succeed in this role:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • EIT is strongly preferred
  • 2-5 years of engineering experience, ideally managing projects and clients as well.
  • Experience with distributed generation, generator installations, utility interconnections, or other electrical power-system projects is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of electrical power distribution design coordination.
  • Ability to review electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, equipment submittals, and technical requirements with care and sound engineering judgment.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards; familiarity with utility interconnection requirements and IEEE 1547 is an advantage.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; experience with discipline-specific engineering and project management software is helpful.
