THE COMPANY

Established in 1998, JSM Group designs and installs the power networks, digital infrastructure and specialist systems that critical industries run on — from high-power grid connections and data centres to renewable energy. Our turnkey teams deliver complex infrastructure at speed, on time, and with reduced legislative, technical and commercial risk.

THE TEAM

Join JSM Group, a leading provider of integrated utility infrastructure solutions across the UK and Europe. Our engineering teams deliver complex power and communications projects that support next-generation connectivity.

You’ll be part of a high-performing engineering function working across pre-construction and delivery, solving complex civil challenges and driving technical excellence across major cable route projects.

SCOPE OF ROLE

As an Engineering Project Manager / Project Engineer, you will lead the civil and technical delivery of cable route projects from feasibility through to completion. Acting as the bridge between pre-construction and operations, you’ll coordinate multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, buildable solutions across complex environments.

A key focus of the role is optioneering and feasibility, identifying the most effective methods to navigate SEDs and pinch points across infrastructure such as highways, rail, watercourses and tunnels.

Location: Potters Bar (Hybrid)

HOW YOU'LL SUCCEED

  • Take ownership of civil engineering delivery across cable route projects

  • Lead optioneering and feasibility studies to determine best crossing methodologies

  • Align technical design with real-world construction delivery

  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, clients and statutory stakeholders

  • Anticipate risks early and resolve engineering challenges proactively

  • Drive high standards across safety, quality, programme and cost

You’ll be recognised as a trusted technical lead who influences decisions and delivers complex infrastructure projects successfully.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Developing and managing project programmes, milestones and technical plans

  • Coordinating engineering designs and ensuring compliance with standards

  • Acting as a key interface between design, pre-construction and delivery teams

  • Leading on complex cable routing challenges including trenchless solutions

  • Overseeing site engineering activity, ensuring quality and safety compliance

  • Managing third-party contractors, budgets and resources

  • Engaging with stakeholders including DNOs, statutory bodies and clients

  • Providing structured reporting to senior leadership and stakeholders

WHAT IT TAKES

  • Strong experience in civil engineering within utilities is a must.

  • Proven background in cable routing and complex crossings (HDD, TBM, trenching)

  • Knowledge of DNO / IDNO standards and UK utility frameworks

  • Experience working with stakeholders such as National Highways, Network Rail or similar

  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams across pre-construction and delivery

  • Strong commercial awareness and decision-making capability
