Project Manager - Engineering Design

About the Position

Pond is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead complex projects for clients in healthcare, industrial, advanced manufacturing, chemical, and life sciences markets. This role will be responsible for guiding projects from pursuit and planning through design, construction, commissioning, and closeout.

The ideal candidate is a strategic, detail-oriented leader with strong technical, financial, client-management and project team management skills. This individual will coordinate and lead multidisciplinary teams, manage project delivery risks, maintain accountability for scope, schedule, budget, and quality, and serve as a trusted advisor both externally to clients and stakeholders and also internally to the project team.

Projects may include new construction, expansions, process facilities, laboratories, manufacturing plants, chemical production facilities, healthcare facilities, research and development environments, utilities, infrastructure, and other highly technical facilities. Successful candidates will be comfortable working in regulated, technically complex, and fast-paced environments where coordination, communication, and disciplined project management are essential.

What you will do

• Lead the delivery of complex engineering, architecture, construction, or facility projects from project initiation through closeout.
• Establish and manage project scope, budgets, schedules, staffing plans, work breakdown structures, and performance baselines.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams consisting of engineering, architecture, construction, procurement, commissioning, and client representatives.
• Manage project financials, including forecasting, cost control, invoicing, earned value, profitability, and accounts receivable.
• Develop and maintain project management plans, quality plans, safety plans, risk registers, communication plans, and change-management procedures.
• Monitor project performance and identify emerging issues related to scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety, resources, and contractual obligations.
• Lead project kickoff meetings, progress meetings, client presentations, risk reviews, and executive status updates.
• Maintain clear and consistent communication with clients, internal leadership, subcontractors, vendors, regulatory agencies, and project team members.
• Review contracts, proposals, change orders, and commercial terms
• Manage change control and evaluate the impact of changes on project scope, cost, schedule, and resources.
• Ensure deliverables are complete, coordinated, technically sound, and compliant with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and client requirements.
• Promote effective quality assurance and quality control throughout project delivery.
• Support business development through client relationship management, proposal development and pursuit strategy
• Lead project closeout activities, including final documentation, financial reconciliation, client acceptance, and lessons-learned reviews.
• Promote a culture of safety, ethical conduct, collaboration, continuous improvement, and client service.

Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, project management, business, or a related technical discipline; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
• 3-5 years of experience leading engineering design projects in one or more of the following markets: healthcare, industrial, advanced manufacturing, chemicals, life sciences or related market
• 5-10 years of experience as an engineer or architect in an A/E/C environment working in healthcare, industrial, advanced manufacturing, chemicals, life sciences or related market
• Demonstrated experience managing complex projects involving multiple disciplines, stakeholders, contractors, consultants, and vendors.
• Demonstrated experience managing complex projects in the A/E/C consulting environment
• Understanding of project delivery methods, including design-bid-build, design-build, EPC, EPCM, and integrated project delivery.
• Proven experience managing project scope, schedule, budget, resources, risk, quality, safety, procurement, and contractual requirements.
• Financial and business acumen, including experience with forecasting, cost control, change management, and project performance reporting.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to build productive relationships with clients and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
• Strong analytical, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or comparable platforms.
• Ability to travel up to 25% to client, project, or company offices as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
• Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Architect (RA) or comparable credential.
• Experience with commissioning, validation, process equipment, cleanrooms, laboratories, GMP, or other regulated environments.
• Experience leading projects with significant operational, process, utility, or facility-infrastructure components.
• Experience with client development, proposals, contract negotiations, and account management.
