Project Manager, Technology

Location: Columbus, OH/Remote

Reports to: Chief Technology Officer

Department: Technology

Role description

Motion.cloud’s Delivery Project Managers own overall customer installation projects. As Technical Project Manager, you will own the Technology organization’s commitments into those projects. You will work with Delivery PMs to understand upcoming needs, schedule Technical Field Engineer (TFE) support, coordinate hardware and software dependencies, and ensure technical capabilities are ready when projects need them. Because the same Technology teams also perform R&D, develop new capabilities, and support existing deployments, you will help balance customer-project demand against available capacity and internal priorities. You will also coordinate smaller technical initiatives such as testing and approving new sensors, gateways, and other technologies for production use. This role requires strong project-management fundamentals, technical fluency, and a practical understanding of Agile and Scrum.

Technical Requirements

4+ years of technical project or program management experience, ideally involving hardware, software, IoT, networking, or field-deployed technology.

Experience coordinating work across engineering, field operations, and project-management teams.

Strong resource, schedule, dependency, and risk-management skills.

Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities.

Familiarity with Agile principles and Scrum practices, including backlog management, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.

Enough technical fluency to understand hardware, software, networking, and field-deployment dependencies and ask the right questions.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Resource & Schedule Planning

Coordinate Technology resources required for customer deployments.

Forecast TFE demand and maintain visibility into team capacity and availability.

Work with Delivery PMs to negotiate realistic schedules for Technology involvement.

Identify resource conflicts and technical dependencies early.

Escalate priority or capacity conflicts when tradeoffs require leadership decisions.

Deployment Readiness

Identify hardware, software, networking, and field-engineering requirements for

upcoming projects.

Track Technology-owned milestones and dependencies against Delivery schedules.

Ensure required hardware and software capabilities are ready before projects depend on

them.

Coordinate technical changes, releases, and rollouts that affect customer deployments.

Keep Delivery PMs informed of readiness risks, schedule changes, and constraints.

R&D & Technology Rollouts

Coordinate R&D efforts that affect field deployments or future customer projects.

Manage evaluation and validation of new sensors, gateways, and other field

technologies.

Coordinate testing, acceptance criteria, pilots, and production-readiness reviews.

Help transition validated technologies from R&D into standard deployment use.

Balance R&D work against customer-project and field-support demands.

Technology Team Planning

Maintain visibility into work across customer deployments, field support, R&D, and

technical initiatives.

Support backlog prioritization and capacity planning across the Technology organization.

Facilitate planning and coordination cadences using Agile/Scrum practices where

appropriate.

Surface cross-team dependencies and competing priorities.

Improve planning processes based on project outcomes and recurring bottlenecks.

Nice-to-Haves

Experience with IoT, sensors, gateways, or connected hardware.

Experience coordinating both hardware and software development.

Experience with field engineering or distributed technical teams.

Familiarity with data centers, building technology, controls, or operational technology.

Working knowledge of networking, cellular, LoRaWAN, or related communications

infrastructure.

Experience with Jira, Linear, or similar planning tools.

Scrum, Agile, or PMP certification.

The Profile

Good at seeing scheduling conflicts and technical dependencies before they become project problems.

When a Delivery PM needs field engineers, new hardware, or an upcoming software capability, the Project Manager Technology wants to understand whether the people and technology will actually be ready—not simply put the requested date on a calendar.

Comfortable negotiating priorities and schedules across teams with different objectives.

Can work effectively with engineers without needing to be the subject-matter expert and understands enough about hardware and software development to recognize meaningful risks and dependencies.

Appreciates Agile and Scrum as tools for visibility, prioritization, and continuous improvement, and knows that hardware, field work, and customer deployments do not always fit neatly into a software-development process.

Most importantly, creates a reliable link between Delivery and Technology: Delivery understands what Technology can commit to, and Technology has enough visibility and planning discipline to meet those commitments.
