Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations. Responsibilities: The Stroke RN works collaboratively with stroke program leadership to support the delivery of high-quality, guideline-driven care to patients with cerebrovascular disease within Strong Memorial Hospital. This position has a primary emphasis on stroke data abstraction, data quality, and registry management using Get with the Guidelines-Stroke and other data platforms, and serves as a key resource in supporting the performance improvement work of the Comprehensive Stroke Center. This role contributes to the execution of stroke program initiatives and supports the operational goals of the stroke leadership team. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Manages patient and institutional-level quality data relating to the care of stroke patients utilizing Get with the Guidelines-Stroke and additional databases as required. Abstracts data for patient records, performs data entry, validates data integrity, and identifies and resolves data discrepancies in collaboration with the Stroke Coordinator and data abstraction team. Maintains proficiency in Get with the Guidelines-Stroke platform requirements, data definitions, and abstraction methodology consistent with AHA/ASA standards. Generates reports and supports benchmarking activities to inform performance improvement. Works with the Stroke Coordinator and stroke program leadership to identify deviations in guideline adherence and assists with development and execution of corrective actions. Supports quality indicator tracking, audit activities, and case reviews as directed. Participates in the design and implementation of data collection protocols to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with certification requirements. Contributes to the preparation of materials for Joint Commission, New York State, and American Heart Association/American Stroke Association certification and survey readiness activities. Participates in unit and hospital performance improvement activities, updates, and education regarding stroke care guidelines. Maintains an active role in stroke program committees and hospital committees related to stroke care as assigned by the Stroke Coordinator. Attends stroke program business meetings and relevant case conferences. Maintains professional development and continuing education per Comprehensive Stroke Center requirements. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree Nursing and 2 years project management, nursing, or other related experience required Master's degree preferred Or equivalent combination of education and experience 2 years of clinical experience; neuroscience or stroke experience preferred Experience with clinical data abstraction, registry platforms, or quality improvement preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards required Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required Organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in data management and quality documentation preferred Proficiency in basic computer applications including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word preferred Critical thinking and independent problem-solving ability preferred LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Registered Nurse license in NY upon hire required Stroke certification within 1 year of hire: Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN), Acute Stroke Coordinator Certification (ASC-BC), or AHA Stroke Coordinator Certification preferred The University of Rochester is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving an inclusive and welcoming culture to advance the University’s Mission to Learn, Discover, Heal, Create – and Make the World Ever Better.
