Project Officer, Governance, Closing the Gap, Reform 4

The Closing the Gap Priority Reform 4 (PR4) Program, within NSW Department of Customer Service (DCS), is currently looking for an Project Officer, Governance to join their team!

About Us

Between 2025-28 the Department of Customer Service (DCS) will work in partnership with Aboriginal Affairs (AANSW) and the NSW Coalition of Aboriginal Peak Organisations (NSW CAPO) to deliver the Closing the Gap (CtG) Priority Reform 4 (PR4) implementation actions and Aboriginal Data Sovereignty and Governance (ADS&G) reform development work program (PR4 Program).

DCS will work with all NSW government agencies on key implementation actions on behalf of the partnership, to improve shared access to and shared decision-making regarding NSW Government-held data for Aboriginal communities.

Primary Purpose of the Role

The Project Officer is responsible for coordinating the secretariat functions of Shared Decision-Making Forums established under Closing the Gap Priority Reform 4.

The role supports effective governance, planning, and implementation activities while fostering strong relationships with both internal government stakeholders and external Aboriginal partners.

Working collaboratively across NSW government agencies, Aboriginal Community members, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), and peak bodies, the position helps ensure forums operate effectively, uphold shared decision-making principles, and contribute to improved outcomes for Aboriginal communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide secretariat support for Shared Decision-Making Forums, including coordinating meetings, preparing agendas and papers, recording minutes, and maintaining action registers.
  • Support the planning and delivery of activities associated with Shared Decision-Making Forums and related Closing the Gap initiatives.
  • Liaise with internal government stakeholders, Aboriginal organisations, and other external stakeholders to coordinate meetings, gather information, and support project activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of briefing notes, correspondence, presentations, reports, governance papers, and other project documentation.
  • Maintain project plans, schedules, risk and issue logs, and other project management artefacts to support delivery and reporting requirements.
  • Support procurement processes by preparing documentation, coordinating procurement activities, maintaining records, and assisting with contract administration.
  • Maintain accurate records and information management systems, including document repositories, contact lists, and project files.
  • Undertake research, analysis, and administrative tasks to support policy, project, and implementation activities.
  • Contribute to the effective delivery of program objectives by providing high-quality coordination, administrative, and project support across multiple workstreams.

  • Experience working with Aboriginal communities, organisations, or stakeholders, and an understanding of the importance of strong relationships and respectful engagement.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • A proactive and self-motivated approach, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
  • Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating projects, including tracking actions, maintaining documentation, and monitoring progress.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate and high-quality work.
  • A collaborative mindset and a willingness to contribute to a supportive and motivated team environment.
  • An interest in project management, governance, and delivering initiatives that contribute to meaningful outcomes.

Salary Grade 07/08, with the base salary for this role starting at $116,981 base plus superannuation
