Zetta Joule is seeking an experienced Project Scheduling Lead to develop and manage integrated project schedules supporting advanced nuclear reactor design and construction activities. This role will lead scheduling processes, maintain Primavera P6 schedules, manage the baseline, monitor critical paths, assess schedule risks, and provide reporting and insights to project leadership. The ideal candidate has 6+ years of scheduling experience, strong CPM and schedule risk analysis skills, and experience managing complex energy or industrial projects. Experience with EVM, startup environments, and PMI-SP/PMP certification is a plus. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.
Project Scheduling Lead
Location: Houston, TX, or Remote
Employment Type: Full Time
Reports To: Director of Program Management
About Us
We are a next-generation nuclear technology startup pioneering the commercialization of High-Temperature Gas-cooled Reactors (HTGRs) — a proven, safe, and transformative technology for delivering ultra-high-temperature heat and enabling a carbon-neutral future.
Our mission is to deploy the world’s first global fleet of Advanced Modular Reactors, redefining how clean energy powers industries, communities, and economies.
As a fast-growing company in its early stage, every team member — whether in engineering, program management, partnerships, operations, or business development — plays a direct role in shaping our technology, culture, and impact. You’ll join a collaborative, mission-driven team of internationally recognized experts and innovators working together to bring advanced nuclear energy to the world.
The Role
The Project Scheduling Lead will be a key contributor to ZettaJoule's reactor design activities, responsible for establishing scheduling processes, procedures, and best practices, and for developing a logically sequenced, resource-loaded project schedule that supports design and construction activities. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and project managers, this role will build detailed schedules and schedule interdependencies, maintain the schedule baseline, identify the critical path, and keep team members informed of and accountable for their commitments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, document, and implement scheduling processes, procedures, and best practices for reactor design and construction activities.
- Build and maintain a fully logic-tied, resource-loaded project schedule in Primavera P6.
- Establish and manage the schedule baseline; document and process all baseline change requests through change control.
- Identify, monitor, and report the project's critical and near-critical paths; recommend recovery or mitigation actions when the schedule is at risk.
- Facilitate schedule updates with engineering, procurement, and construction leads, ensuring activity durations, logic, and resource assignments reflect current plans.
- Conduct schedule risk analysis and incorporate risk-adjusted schedule ranges and contingency into planning.
- Analyze schedule variance and performance trends (including EVM metrics where applicable) and communicate findings to leadership.
- Prepare periodic schedule status reports, dashboards, and look-ahead schedules for internal and external stakeholders.
- Integrate subcontractor and vendor schedules into the master project schedule and confirm consistency of logic, durations, and milestones.
- Train and mentor project team members on scheduling tools, terminology, and disciplined schedule-update practices.
- Assess and communicate the schedule impact of proposed changes as part of integrated change control.
What You Bring
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 6 years of experience as a scheduler.
- Working knowledge of scheduling methodologies, including critical path method (CPM), resource/cost loading, and schedule risk analysis.
- Hands-on experience managing large, complex projects in Primavera P6.
- Experience deploying new scheduling processes and infrastructure to support energy or large industrial projects.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, project controls, and construction teams.
Certifications
PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP) or Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred. Formal Primavera P6 training a plus.
Citizenship
U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent resident status is required. Access to EAR-controlled and 10 CFR 810-governed nuclear technology requires authorization consistent with U.S. export control law.
Even Better
- Experience standing up or significantly improving a scheduling process or toolchain for early-stage startups.
- Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) systems and reporting.
- Professional proficiency in Japanese.
Why Work for Us
- Competitive salary.
- Flexible hours & remote options.
- Health/Life/Disability benefits.
- Vacation/Sick leave.
- Work alongside internationally recognized experts shaping the future of nuclear energy.
