The PTI Producer executes the day-to-day production of Almanac and/or Almanac at the Capitol, turning editorial strategy into a coherent weekly flagship program. This role builds the rundown, shapes segment mix, manages show flow, coordinates guests and scripts, and ensures Almanac and/or Almanac at the Capitol remains a public affairs program with integrity.

Compensation: $50 to $60 per hour.

Hybrid Work Environment: Candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to the Twin Cities Metro area and report to onsite office a minimum of three days per week.

PRODUCE ALMANAC/AATC (70% of time)

  • Produce Almanac/AATC from concept through air.
  • Build weekly rundowns, show structure, segment mix, pacing, and guest strategy.
  • Make day-to-day editorial decisions within priorities and standards set by the Managing Director.
  • Integrate reporting from the Capitol, environmental, health, and Greater Minnesota beats into the weekly broadcast where appropriate.
  • Develop recurring topical segments that support expanded coverage areas and new audience expectations.
  • Help modernize Almanac’s format, tone, pacing, visual presentation, and audience relevance while preserving its trusted identity.
  • Collaborate with the Assignment Editor on story pipeline, guest opportunities, and forward planning.
  • Coordinate with the Associate Producer on Almanac at the Capitol handoffs during the legislative season.
  • Support Town Hall production when topics align with Almanac editorial priorities.
  • Flag editorial, guest, standards, or production risks to the Supervising Producer early.

DIGITAL (25% of time)

  • Identify Almanac segments repurposed for digital clips, explainers, web articles, YouTube segments, social posts, or newsletter items.
  • Write or support digital summaries, headlines, segment descriptions, and audience-facing framing.
  • Plan segments with digital extension in mind: what is shareable, searchable, explanatory, and useful for audiences beyond the Friday broadcast.
  • Coordinate with digital teams to ensure Almanac content supports a future digital Almanac vertical with goals around accessibility, engagement, and discovery.

Other duties as assigned (5% of time)

  • Participate as an active member of the Public Affairs Team. Contribute to shared goals and collaborate with colleagues on achievement of priorities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

  • At least 5 years previous as a broadcast producer in a live television environment.
  • At least 3 years of experience writing scripts for television broadcast
  • Demonstrable non-partisanship.

Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism, Journalism or related.
  • 7+ years of experience in broadcast news, public affairs or other live tv production.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Self-starter who is an independent problem solver.
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite – Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive, Teams, the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Expertise with modern newsroom production software such as ENPS or iNews.
  • Deep understanding of social media platforms and experiences.
  • Strong focus on audience and end user needs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Able to multitask in a fast-paced, time sensitive production environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all team members.
