About The Company

Founded in 1954, Thomann GmbH is the world’s largest mail-order retailer of musical instruments and equipment and one of Germany’s leading e-commerce companies. Our online store, thomann.de, serves approximately 15 million customers, from beginners to internationally recognized musicians. With more than 1,900 employees from over 55 countries and a product range of more than 120,000 items, we bring together instruments, sheet music, professional audio, lighting, and event technology, including products from internationally renowned brands and Thomann’s own labels.

At our campus in Treppendorf near Bamberg, you will find Europe’s largest music store and a dedicated Service Center. The Service Center IT team develops and operates the applications used across warehousing, returns, shipping, and customer service. This close-knit team of six developers works directly with Service Center colleagues and takes ownership of application support, feature development across approximately 40 applications, server operations, and reporting. We also make active use of AI tools in development and continually improve our ways of working.

About The Role

As a QA Engineer specializing in test automation and infrastructure, you will build and develop quality assurance practices for the Service Center IT team. You will shape the test strategy, establish reliable environments and test data, and integrate automated checks into our GitLab CI/CD pipeline. This role goes beyond writing tests: you will help create and operate a practical, production-like testing system that the entire team can depend on. Your work will support a diverse technology landscape, including Java/Spring, Angular, and established legacy applications, while helping quality assurance keep pace with AI-supported development.

Qualifications

You bring at least three years of experience in test automation, including hands-on experience building and operating test setups. You are confident with at least one programming language, ideally Java or TypeScript, and have practical experience with UI automation frameworks such as Playwright as well as API testing. You understand CI/CD principles and have worked with Docker; experience with GitLab CI is especially valuable.

You also bring solid SQL skills and a working knowledge of Linux. Familiarity with MS SQL Server, Ansible, or Java application servers is an advantage. You take a pragmatic approach to quality, favoring maintainable tests that run reliably over large, difficult-to-manage test suites. You are open to using AI tools thoughtfully and enjoy enabling colleagues to contribute to effective testing. German and English proficiency at B2 level or higher is required.

Responsibilities

Develop a clear, risk-based test strategy for approximately 40 applications, defining the appropriate testing levels and prioritizing work that delivers meaningful value. Evaluate, select, configure, and maintain automation tools for user interfaces and REST APIs. Work with the team to build and operate test environments, including a production-like staging system that supports dependable validation.

Create reproducible test data in MS SQL while protecting production data. Integrate automated checks into the GitLab CI/CD pipeline so that feedback is timely and consistent. Write and maintain automated tests for critical business workflows, using manual testing selectively when automation is not appropriate. Help developers and other team members write effective, maintainable tests, and collaborate closely with the Product Owner during acceptance and release activities.

Benefits

Join a team where you can build quality assurance practices from the ground up and influence how testing is done. You will work across a broad and varied technology landscape in a collaborative environment with flat hierarchies and regular team events.

Thomann offers 30 days of annual leave, flexible working hours, and a hybrid working arrangement with the option to work from home up to two days per week. Compensation includes holiday pay, a company pension scheme, and access to corporate benefits and employee discounts. Additional benefits include a modern workplace, freshly prepared meals in the company cafeteria, free English and office-skills courses, a rehearsal room, an on-site fitness studio, occupational health programs, a JobRad bicycle scheme, and free use of employee electric-vehicle charging spaces.

Equal Opportunity

Thomann GmbH is committed to a respectful and inclusive workplace. We welcome applications from qualified candidates of all backgrounds and value the diverse perspectives, experiences, and skills that help us serve our customers and strengthen our teams. We encourage you to submit a complete application, including your cover letter, résumé, certificates, and salary expectations.
