QA Engineer - 12 Months FTC
Reports to: Head of Development
Location: Remote
Package: Competitive salary + annual bonus
About the role:
We are looking for a proactive and detail-focused QA Engineer to help us deliver reliable, high-quality digital products across the Healthxchange Group.
Working closely with developers, product owners and colleagues from across the business, you will be involved throughout the software development lifecycle—from reviewing requirements and testing work before release to evaluating outcomes after deployment.
You will be responsible for owning our testing strategies and approaches, building our test coverage and combine hands-on manual testing with automated and API testing. Helping us identify issues earlier, improve release confidence and establish a consistent approach to quality across all our platforms.
About Healthxchange:
Founded in 2000, Healthxchange is the leading supplier of medical aesthetic products and services to professionals across the UK & Ireland. We are the exclusive UK & Ireland distributor for brands including Obagi Medical and Epicutis, the exclusive professional channel partner for Medik8, and a long-standing partner to the leading injectables manufacturers. We supply over 10,000 clinics with a full range of products (skincare, injectables, energy-based devices) and services (software and education) to support their business needs. We are the #1 medical aesthetics distributor in the UK & Ireland and were named Distributor of the Year at the Aesthetics Awards in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2026.
Responsibilities:
Test Planning, Design & Automation
Review tickets, specifications, acceptance criteria and software requirements to identify gaps, ambiguities and testing requirements.
Design, document and execute manual and automated test cases across our platforms.
Develop and maintain automated tests that improve repeatability, coverage and release confidence.
Integrate automated tests into the Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines so that quality checks run as part of every build and release.
Test Execution
Carry out functional, exploratory, usability, smoke and pre-release testing.
Test APIs and system integrations, including request and response validation, error handling, authentication and data integrity.
Perform thorough regression testing following code changes, bug fixes and platform updates.
Quality in a Regulated Environment
Produce clear, traceable test evidence and maintain audit-ready records of testing activity, particularly for the e-Pharmacy platform.
Ensure test environments and test data protect patient and customer information, using anonymised or synthetic data where appropriate.
Apply an understanding of UK GDPR and relevant pharmacy and healthcare requirements to test planning and execution.
Defect Management
Identify, reproduce and track defects using Jira, providing clear replication steps, supporting evidence, expected behaviour, actual behaviour and an appropriate assessment of impact.
Work closely with system users and developers to investigate and replicate issues, verify fixes and prevent defects from recurring.
Collaboration & Reporting
Collaborate with developers, product owners and cross-functional teams to agree test coverage, priorities and release readiness.
Provide clear updates on testing progress, risks, results and unresolved issues.
Release Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
Complete post-release checks and evaluations, documenting outcomes and identifying opportunities to improve future releases.
Help evolve QA standards, processes, documentation and tooling across the Healthxchange technology estate.
What we need from you:
Experience in software quality assurance, software testing or a similar role.
Strong practical experience of manually testing web-based software before release.
Experience designing, writing and maintaining automated tests using frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress or Selenium, with C#, JavaScript or TypeScript.
Experience running automated tests within CI/CD pipelines, ideally Azure DevOps.
Experience testing APIs using tools such as Postman, Swagger or similar.
Good knowledge of QA methodologies, testing techniques and the software development lifecycle.
Experience using defect-tracking software such as Jira and familiarity with test management tools.
Ability to turn requirements and acceptance criteria into effective, traceable test scenarios.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
Clear written and verbal communication, particularly when explaining technical issues and their business impact.
A collaborative approach and the confidence to work constructively with developers, product owners and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to organise and prioritise testing across multiple products and releases.
Desirable:
A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related subject.
Experience testing e-commerce, healthcare, pharmaceutical or other regulated platforms.
Experience producing test evidence to support audit or regulatory compliance.
Experience testing mobile applications, back-office systems and third-party integrations.
Basic knowledge of databases and SQL for validating data and investigating defects.
Understanding of accessibility, performance or security testing principles.
