Company Description

FreeAppStore is an open platform for free, high-quality web applications with no ads, paywalls, subscriptions, or hidden costs. The catalog includes 27+ browser-based productivity and utility tools, from timers and note-taking apps to habit trackers, flashcards, calculators, and more, all available without downloads or accounts. The platform also supports indie developers with zero-cost hosting on Cloudflare’s global edge network, streamlined deployment pipelines, and a modern stack using TypeScript, React, Vite, and Tailwind CSS. FreeAppStore focuses on removing infrastructure barriers so creators can concentrate on building useful software. Its mission is to make practical tools accessible to everyone, emphasizing software that serves users rather than monetizing them.

Role Description

This is a remote, unpaid volunteer role for a QA Engineer Intern on the FreeAppStore software development team. The intern will work closely with developers to keep the apps in the catalog reliable, accessible, and bug-free. Day-to-day tasks include writing and running test plans and test cases, performing manual and exploratory testing across browsers and devices, reproducing and documenting bugs with clear steps, tracking issues through to resolution, verifying fixes, and helping build out automated tests. The intern will also contribute to release checks and help improve quality and testing practices across the platform.

Qualifications

• Understanding of software testing fundamentals, including test cases, test plans, and regression testing.

• Attention to detail and the ability to write clear, reproducible bug reports.

• Familiarity with bug tracking tools such as GitHub Issues or Jira.

• Basic knowledge of web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript); exposure to TypeScript or React is a plus.

• Interest in, or experience with, automated testing tools such as Playwright, Cypress, or Vitest is beneficial.

• Good communication skills and comfort working with developers in a remote, async environment.

• Currently studying or self-learning software testing, computer science, software engineering, or a related field.

• Interest in open platforms, free software, and building tools that are inclusive and widely accessible.

Internship Details

• Only candidates based in Australia or New Zealand will be interviewed.

• This is an unpaid volunteer internship, for experience only.

• Daily team meetings are held at 9 AM Melbourne time; you must attend at least two meetings per week.

• A commitment of at least 8 hours per week is required.

• The internship runs for 10 weeks, with a certificate or referral provided on completion.
