About the Role

Hudl is seeking an experienced, automation-focused Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to join its North American Sports product team. The team develops analytics and recruiting products for American Football, helping coaches and analysts make faster, data-driven decisions about player performance and talent acquisition.

In this role, you will take ownership of quality across the software development lifecycle within a cross-functional team. You will develop risk-based testing strategies, build and maintain automated tests, validate applications across the full technology stack, and work closely with Engineering, Product, and Design teams. You will also guide quality discussions, mentor teammates, and help improve testing practices, software reliability, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop risk-based testing strategies based on the architecture and requirements of your team.
  • Lead quality discussions during Scrum ceremonies and help the team maintain high testing standards.
  • Review defect priorities and identify opportunities to improve quality processes and development practices.
  • Design and execute tests across front-end interfaces, APIs, backend services, and data pipelines.
  • Validate data transformations, service outputs, and complex application logic at scale.
  • Determine which testing activities should be automated and select appropriate approaches.
  • Build reliable and maintainable automated tests using Playwright and scripting.
  • Investigate complex software issues, identify root causes, and use data to support findings.
  • Monitor testing outcomes and identify ways to reduce production risks.
  • Coach and support teammates by sharing technical knowledge and promoting strong quality practices.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Design teams throughout development and delivery.
  • Contribute to hiring activities and participate in your own professional development.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of software testing experience.
  • Hands-on experience testing applications across the full technology stack, including APIs, backend systems, data-heavy applications, and front-end interfaces.
  • Proficiency with automation frameworks such as Playwright.
  • Programming or scripting experience with Python or TypeScript.
  • Experience owning quality within a team or squad and leading testing initiatives from planning through execution.
  • Ability to define testing success criteria and develop approaches that reduce production risks.
  • Strong investigative and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and data-driven evaluation.
  • Ability to understand user needs and incorporate the user experience into testing strategies.
  • Active use of AI tools in daily workflows, including test case creation, failure diagnosis, documentation, and other quality assurance activities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and influence quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with performance testing concepts, including load, stress, and scalability testing.
  • Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter for APIs and backend systems.
  • Passion for or experience in basketball, American Football, or ice hockey as an athlete, coach, or fan.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
