Overview

The QA Engineer will help ensure that DOCOsoft’s claims management platforms are safe to change, reliably testable and ready for production. The role treats quality as an engineering outcome throughout the delivery lifecycle rather than as a separate testing phase.

Working closely with software engineers, business analysts, product stakeholders and delivery teams, the QA Engineer will define and execute effective testing across user interfaces, APIs, services, integrations and critical user journeys.

The role combines risk-based testing, automation-first thinking and early involvement in solution design. The successful candidate will provide clear quality evidence for releases, help prevent defects and continually improve the testability, reliability and resilience of DOCOsoft’s platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Own risk-based test planning for features and releases, covering test design, execution, quality reporting and the evidence required to support release decisions.
  • Define and deliver effective testing across user interfaces, APIs, services, integrations and end-to-end user journeys, ensuring that acceptance criteria are clear, testable and aligned with expected system behaviour.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests, automation frameworks and supporting infrastructure using an AI-augmented, automation-first approach.
  • Collaborate with engineering and other stakeholders from the design stage onwards to improve system testability, identify delivery risks and prevent defects before implementation.
  • Lead defect investigation, triage and root-cause analysis, ensuring that defects are accurately reported and that recurring causes are addressed through sustainable improvements.
  • Validate data migrations, platform upgrades and non-functional characteristics, including security, performance, resilience and reliability, and support client User Acceptance Testing where required.
  • Promote quality as a shared responsibility by communicating material risks clearly, improving engineering quality practices and mentoring junior and mid-level QA engineers.

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience delivering software testing and quality engineering for complex enterprise applications, ideally within financial services, insurance or another regulated environment.
  • Strong knowledge of risk-based testing, the test pyramid, defect prevention and the application of functional and non-functional testing throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Demonstrable test automation experience using Playwright with TypeScript, Selenium, Cypress or a comparable technology, including experience maintaining or extending automation frameworks.
  • Practical experience of API and contract testing using Postman, Newman or similar tools, supported by strong SQL skills for data validation, troubleshooting and investigation.
  • Experience testing asynchronous or event-driven workflows, with an understanding of distributed-system risks, integration failure modes and platform architecture.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery teams and CI/CD environments, ideally using Azure DevOps, including automated quality gates and test-result reporting.
  • Strong analytical, documentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain quality risks clearly, influence engineering practices and mentor other QA engineers.

Desirable

  • Experience of the London Market, Lloyd’s insurance or another area of the insurance industry.
  • Practical experience applying AI-assisted techniques to software testing or quality engineering.
  • ISTQB Foundation Level certification or a higher relevant testing qualification.
  • Familiarity with containerised development and test environments, including Docker.
  • Experience of application security testing using OWASP ZAP or a comparable tool.
  • Experience of performance testing using JMeter, k6 or a comparable technology.
