The Company Torn Banner Studios is a Toronto, Canada-based independent game development studio founded in 2010. We first made our mark with Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, a multi-million copy selling title that redefined melee combat in gaming. Since then, we’ve continued to grow and innovate, releasing Chivalry 2 and, most recently, No More Room in Hell 2 . Today, our team of around 100 developers is dedicated to creating unique, challenging, and fun gaming experiences. As a Quality Assurance Lead you will oversee the quality testing of our projects and of the QA department, in concert with the QA Manager and other QA Leads. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting a team of testers and providing high-level direction. This individual must have a keen interest in participating in all aspects of the game development process, and an understanding and appreciation for problem solving and creating a polished product. This person will play a significant role in getting a high-quality game and updates to our players, working collaboratively with team members in all disciplines to ensure the game's quality. Note: While this role can be carried out remotely, candidates are required to be current Ontario or Quebec residents or willing to relocate to Ontario. Responsibilities Manage the test team's day to day activities and quality of work Own and drive the testing process and maintain tools and processes used by testers (Jira, Confluence, TestRail, etc.) Collaborate with all departments on the team to ensure their work can be tested efficiently Develop testing plans and test cases for new features in tandem with embedded QA testers Oversee the execution of daily smoke tests and as-needed test runs, and provide feedback to testers to guarantee test coverage Help with recruitment, on-boarding, development and professional training of the quality assurance team Maintain regular internal communications and encourage a positive and ambitious team atmosphere Demonstrate good leadership, accountability, enthusiasm, openness, and a sense of commitment Foster strong relationships across departments, breaking down silos and promoting collaboration to achieve studio-wide objectives. Drive a culture of continuous feedback, accountability, and growth Requirements At least 3 years of professional video game QA experience Professional experience as a QA Lead, supervising testers on a shipped game A strong and efficient communicator with excellent management skills Experience testing on multiple platforms, including Sony and/or Microsoft consoles and PC High degree of self-motivation and initiative-taking The ability to briefly work on-site in Toronto is required Bonuses Experience with testing and supporting frequent updates to live games Experience with internal QA testing in small/medium sized development studios Experience with testing for Sony and Microsoft certification Experience with multiplayer/network testing Experience with Unreal Engine 5 or other equivalent engines Good knowledge of using metrics and data to guide testing goals Experience with developing tools for QA, build delivery, and automated testing Strong understanding of development best practices and experience diagnosing and debugging complex bugs and issues Benefits & Perks 6.5 weeks paid vacation Eligible for Employee Stock Options Plan Flexible schedule and work location, with your choice of remote, hybrid, or on-site. The range for this role represents candidates across a wide range of skills and experience for the position. Increased salaries may be achievable for those who have achieved mastery and deep industry knowledge over time.
