Position Overview:

The Quality Assurance Supervisor (contract) will cover maternity leave for 12 months. The position will play a key role in leading the quality team and ensuring compliance with Natural Health Product Regulations (NHPR) following NHP GMP guidelines at CanPrev site. This role is responsible for supervising team activities, managing documentation, driving compliance initiatives, and implementing GMP in collaboration with internal teams and other stakeholders.. The ideal candidate is a results-driven self-starter with strong experience in quality management systems and a proven ability to ensure operational excellence and regulatory adherence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and provide daily guidance to the quality team to ensure activities are performed effectively and in compliance with established standards.
• Establish quality key performance criteria and specifications; assess and identify resource requirements to support quality objectives.
• Develop, review and update SOPs, forms, and work instructions to maintain regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.
• Develop, update, and manage Finished Product Specifications (FPS) in collaboration with the Product Development team and contract manufacturer.
• Conduct root cause investigation for quality issues, including Out of Specification (OOS) cases, assign, implement and monitor corrective and preventive action (CAPA).
• Manage planned and unplanned deviation in collaboration with contract manufacturers and internal operations teams; conduct risk assessments and provide recommendations.
• Develop, maintain, and renew Quality Agreements with contract manufacturers, suppliers, distributors and warehouse service providers.
• Approve finished product specifications (FPS), testing parameters, and methodologies in accordance with Health Canada’s Quality of Natural Health Products Guide, USP and other recognized pharmacopoeias.
• Oversee change control activities to ensure documents are reviewed and approved on time.
• Review and approve change requests, conduct risk assessments, and provide recommendations for the change with appropriate record-keeping.
• Lead quality compliance activities in alignment with Natural Health Products Regulatory Regulations (NHPR) following the NHP GMP guidance document to ensure ongoing GMP compliance at Canprev site.
• Perform statistical process control including process monitoring, trend analysis, and identification of continuous improvement opportunities.
• Conduct internal audits (annual/quarterly), prepare audit reports, follow up on non-conformance, and support external audits and regulatory inspections.
• Perform risk analysis of products and processes to create risk assessment matrices to identify, evaluate, and mitigate potential quality and compliance risks.
• Identify training needs and manage the employee training matrix.
• Design and implement process validation for new products and significant modification to an existing product manufacturing process.
• Supervise and approve finished product stability study to ensure compliance with shelf-life claims.
• Lead the review of customer feedback, conduct investigation and risk assessment, implement CAPA, and manage response to customers.
• Establish qualification criteria for new suppliers and contract manufacturers, evaluate their compliance, and conduct performance re-evaluation of existing contract manufacturers or suppliers.
• Monitor and manage eQMS activities to ensure ongoing compliance.
• Oversee Preventive Control Plan (PCP) for dietary supplements products.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Quality Assurance, Life Science, Food Science, or a related scientific/technical field, with a strong foundation in Natural Health Product (NHP) safety and Quality Management Systems.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in quality leadership roles within NHP, pharmaceutical or food manufacturing environments.
• Solid understanding of GMP requirements, including SOR/2003-196 (Natural Health Product Regulations -NHPR) and 21 CFR Part 111 (cGMP for Dietary Supplements)
• Proven experience developing and maintaining SOPs, forms, and process flowcharts.

Key Skills

• Experience working with eQMS and manufacturing software systems
• Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.)
• Collaborative and team-oriented mindset
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively
• Quality-related certification or degree considered an asset
• Experience working in NHP GMP-regulated environments
• Demonstrated experience leading small to mid-sized quality teams

Nice to Haves

Knowledge of USP, BP, or equivalent pharmacopeial standards and tolerance limits for Pharmaceuticals or Natural Health Products.

Schedule

• Monday to Friday, Hybrid - 4 days onsite, 1 day remote.
• Location: Scarborough, ON M1S 3R5

Pay: CA$63,000.00-CA$75,000.00 per year
