Munich (preferred) · Remote possible within Germany · Full-time · Mid Senior

Build quantum machine learning models that make use of what quantum circuits do natively, produce probability distributions, and turn them into production-ready parts of our flagship platform, Luna.

Join Aqarios to Redefine the Future of Computing

At Aqarios, we want to change how the world solves hard problems. We use quantum computing to tackle some of the most complex challenges companies face across industries. Join us and you'll work on technology that's still in active research, in a setup that's flexible and gives you room to own what you do. Ideally you'd be with us in our Munich office, though remote within Germany works too.

Who we are

Aqarios was founded to close the gap between quantum computing and problems companies actually need solved. Our aim is to make quantum genuinely useful for the hard, complex challenges that come up across many industry domains. We work with large enterprises to do that, sometimes through Luna, our platform, and sometimes through solutions we build for a specific customer. We're a team of around 15 people, spun out of LMU Munich. That means there's real academic depth behind what we do, paired with the day-to-day of shipping software that customers rely on.

Your Tasks

  • QML modelling: Implement QML models that exploit the probabilistic nature of quantum measurement, together with our research team, and take them from prototype to production
  • Benchmarking: Build fair benchmarks against strong classical models and report the results honestly, including when quantum loses
  • Production-ready code: Turn research prototypes into tested, maintainable modules in Luna that customers use
  • Software architecture: Design the structure and interfaces of Luna's QML components so that models, backends and benchmarks can be swapped and extended
  • Deployment: Deploy and operate QML services in Luna, including CI/CD pipelines and service APIs
  • Cloud & GPU: Run experiments at scale on GPU-accelerated simulators, cloud infrastructure and real QPUs
  • Publications: Contribute to publications and conference talks with our research team
  • Direction: Shape where our QML stack goes, together with the research and product teams

Your Qualification

Must have:

  • Education & experience: A master's degree in physics, computer science, mathematics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, plus at least 2 years of professional experience building ML or software systems
  • Quantum computing & ML: Solid understanding of quantum computing fundamentals and of machine learning, both classical and quantum
  • Quantum frameworks: Real project experience with Qiskit, PennyLane or a comparable framework, beyond tutorial notebooks
  • Classical ML: Solid practice with PyTorch, JAX or scikit-learn, enough to build baselines that are hard to beat
  • Production-ready code: Strong Python with tests, Git, code reviews and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions or GitLab CI). You've written code that other people depend on
  • Software architecture: You can structure a codebase into clear modules and APIs, including service APIs (e.g. REST with FastAPI), and reason about design trade-offs
  • Deployment: You've packaged and deployed ML models into production, e.g. with Docker, and kept them running
  • Independence: Given an open problem, you find a solid answer without daily check-ins. You ask when you're unsure, take feedback well, and are comfortable saying "I don't know yet"
  • Language: Fluent English
  • Location: Based in or near Munich, or elsewhere in Germany if you work remotely

Nice to have

  • Probabilistic modelling: Experience with probabilistic or generative models, e.g. Born machines, energy-based models or Bayesian methods
  • Cloud: Running or deploying workloads on AWS, Azure or GCP; containers such as Docker
  • GPU support: GPU-accelerated simulation or training, e.g. PennyLane Lightning GPU, NVIDIA CUDA-Q/cuQuantum, or JAX/PyTorch on GPU
  • Research: Research experience or publications in QML or ML; a PhD is a plus
  • Hardware: Hands-on time with real QPUs
  • Systems languages: C++ or Rust
  • German: Conversational German

Your Benefits

At Aqarios, you’ll have the chance to grow alongside a company at the forefront of quantum innovation, building a career in a rapidly expanding field.

  • Flexible hours and a relaxed approach to where you work. Remote is fine, we'd just like to see you in the office about once a week if you're in Munich
  • Publishing and going to conferences is welcome and supported
  • Real influence on where our quantum stack goes
  • Your work runs in production and will be evaluated with customers
  • A small team that supports each other, an office in central Munich and regular team events
  • A Wellhub membership for gyms and fitness, and a Claude subscription for your daily work

🚀 Don’t just work - make an impact. Join Aqarios and help us shape the future of computing, one breakthrough at a time!
