The role

Define and develop the hardware architecture connecting our semiconductor quantum processors to the outside world, spanning chip packaging, cryogenic wiring, filtering, and room-temperature electronics.

Groove Quantum is building the scalable quantum computer of the future based on semiconductor germanium quantum dots. As our quantum processors scale towards larger and increasingly complex systems, your main mission will be to ensure the signal chain surrounding our chips enables rather than limits qubit performance. Sitting at the boundary between science and engineering, you will combine device-level physics with rigorous hardware engineering, using hands-on calculations, modelling, and lab experimentation to optimise qubit coherence, control, and readout.

Main responsibilities

  • Architecture definition & signal path design: Define the full-stack quantum hardware architecture and design analogue signal delivery, cryogenic wiring, filtering, grounding, and shielding from room-temperature electronics to chip packaging.

  • System budgeting & scaling models: Develop and maintain noise, thermal, signal, and channel-count budgets to drive design trade-offs and guide how system architecture scales.

  • Experimental validation & modeling: Perform quantitative modeling and trade-off simulations, validating hardware designs through hands-on measurements and experiments in the lab.

  • Requirements & physics translation: Translate measured qubit performance into concrete hardware specifications, and convert physical hardware constraints into realistic system-level performance expectations.

  • Cross-functional R&D collaboration: Work closely with quantum measurement, semiconductor fabrication, electronics, and software teams, as well as external technology partners, to deploy scalable packaging and cryogenic infrastructure.

The team

You will be an integral part of our multidisciplinary quantum hardware and systems engineering team. You will work in daily collaboration with measurement engineers, device physicists, software developers, electronics engineers, and fabrication specialists. This role reports directly to the Quantum Integration Lead and has no direct reports, focusing on hands-on architecture development and technical leadership.

Key qualifications

We are looking for an analytical, hands-on engineer with strong engineering judgment who thrives on solving complex physical problems and moving seamlessly between calculations, hardware design, and lab experiments.

  • Education: PhD or equivalent experience in electrical engineering, applied physics, or a related field.

  • Hardware & RF expertise: Proven experience designing complex analogue, RF, or mixed-signal hardware, including deep familiarity with noise, signal integrity, filtering, shielding, grounding, and multi-layer PCB design.

  • Cryogenic systems: Direct experience with cryogenic environments, including thermal budgeting, cryogenic wiring, and electrical component behaviour at low temperatures.

  • Modeling & quantitative analysis: Strong ability to build engineering budgets and quantitative models from first principles, combining measurement data with device physics to drive practical decisions.

  • Ownership & collaboration: Goal-driven mindset with the ability to work independently, take ownership of complex technical challenges, and communicate effectively across scientific and engineering disciplines.

At Groove Quantum, we’re all about fresh perspectives and different backgrounds. Fun fact: research shows most people talk themselves out of applying because they don't hit 100% of the job specs. Don't do that! If this role excites you, hit apply anyway. We want to hear from you!
