What You’ll Do At Elekta
Shape how complex R&D projects are delivered. As R&D Portfolio & PMO Lead, you will strengthen how we prioritize, govern and deliver projects across our Brachytherapy R&D organization. This is a senior individual-contributor role that combines strategic oversight with hands-on involvement. You will establish practical ways of working, improve portfolio transparency and help Project Managers and R&D leaders turn complex plans into realistic and predictable delivery.
Working closely with R&D leadership, Project Management, Product Management, Finance, Quality, Regulatory Affairs and Operations, you will create structure and consistency without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy. You will also act as custodian of the portfolio governance process, helping ensure that new initiatives, changing priorities and unplanned work are assessed against strategic value, available capacity, regulatory needs and existing delivery commitments.
Responsibilities
- Establish and continuously improve a clear, practical PMO operating model for R&D.
- Improve portfolio visibility across priorities, capacity, dependencies, risks, financials and delivery commitments.
- Provide leadership with clear scenarios, trade-offs and decision-ready portfolio insights.
- Define proportionate governance, standards and objective project-health indicators.
- Constructively challenge project assumptions, plans and delivery commitments where needed.
- Drive timely recovery plans when projects move away from agreed scope, timelines, budgets or outcomes.
- Coach and challenge Project Managers and project sponsors to strengthen planning, ownership and execution.
- Build a strong Project Management community of practice through knowledge-sharing and capability development.
- Improve the quality and consistency of portfolio data, planning, forecasting and reporting.
- Help teams apply SAFe/Agile, hybrid and traditional stage-gate methods in a practical and effective way.
- Identify systemic delivery barriers and translate lessons learned into tangible improvements.
What You’ll Bring
- You have extensive experience in project, program, portfolio or PMO leadership.
- Experience establishing or improving a PMO, portfolio governance model or Project Management capability.
- Strong knowledge of portfolio prioritization, capacity and demand planning, financial governance, risk management and executive reporting.
- Experience working in complex product-development environments.
- Ability to work effectively across SAFe/Agile, hybrid and traditional delivery models.
- Strong influencing and change-management skills, including the ability to challenge senior stakeholders constructively.
- Experience with portfolio and Project Management tools such as Planview, Microsoft Project, Jira or BigPicture.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Dutch is an advantage.
- Experience in medical devices is valuable. We also welcome experience from other complex or high-reliability industries, including automotive, aerospace, industrial technology and consumer electronics.
- Ability to bring clarity and direction when priorities compete, information is incomplete and decisions require careful trade-offs.
What Makes This Role Different
This is an opportunity to build and shape a capability rather than simply maintain an existing PMO. You will have direct access to senior R&D leadership and the mandate to improve how portfolio decisions are made and how complex projects are delivered.
You will not initially manage a team. Your impact will come from your expertise, credibility and ability to create alignment across functions. As the PMO capability develops, the scope
