Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages new device development projects from development through transfer to production. Works with the product management group to define and specify device technology requirements to support company’s product development roadmap

    • Designs and simulates epitaxial structures to meet device performance targets, works closely with the epi engineering group to develop, procure and test the epi designs

    • Works closely with the process integration team to define new unit process requirements and targets, design/integrate wafer fab process flows

    • Defines and creates test structures and layouts to fabricate and characterize new device technologies and demonstrate margin for volume manufacturing

    • Performs DC, small signal RF and optical testing and characterization of devices, setup test plan, collects and analyzes data

    • Works with the quality group to define and meet reliability requirements for new devices

    • Works with product engineering groups to assess performance of device at product level and make improvements as needed

    • Creates documentation required to transfer the design to manufacturing including all design verification data, corner studies and test plans

    • Works with the device modeling group to create device models required for simulation and development of new products

    • Participates in on-going continuous yield/performance improvement efforts

Education & Experience

  • Minimum M.S. in electrical engineering or related field with 5 years of relevant job experience

    • Ph.D. in Electrical engineering or related field is preferred with 2 years of relevant job experience

    • Deep knowledge and understanding of III-V semiconductor devices and materials: physics, TCAD simulation, fab process, testing, modeling

    • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and/or Product Lifecycle Management processes

    • Experience of working within cross-functional teams successfully, interacting with a broad range of functions, skills, cultures, and personalities.

Skills

  • Previous experience as an engineer in III-V electronics and RF R&D.

    • In-depth understanding of all aspects of III-V electronic device design.

    • Familiarity with DC, small signal RF and optical testing and characterization of devices

    • Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and risk management skills.

    • Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills.

    • Highly self-motivated with a strong multi-disciplinary background is essential.

Working Conditions

  • This position is on-site full time.

    • Regular use of a computer and other office equipment is necessary

    • Interaction with team members and external contacts is a regular part of the job

  • Assess device performance at the product level, working closely with product engineering teams to identify and implement improvements.
  • Create comprehensive documentation for technology transfer to manufacturing, including development data, process control plans, and fingerprints.
  • Minimum M.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with 5 years of relevant experience in semiconductor device development.
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred, along with 2 years of industry experience.
  • Deep expertise in III-V semiconductor devices and materials, including physics, TCAD simulation, fab processes, testing, and modeling.
  • Proven track record in managing new device development projects, from concept to production, with a focus on III-V optoelectronics.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to effectively engage with cross-functional teams, ensuring smooth project execution.
  • Hands-on experience with DC, small-signal RF, and optical testing equipment, and a deep understanding of characterization techniques.
  • Ability to design and simulate epitaxial structures, considering performance targets and manufacturing constraints.
  • Understanding of wafer fab design rules and their impact on device performance, with a focus on process integration.
  • Familiarity with reliability requirements and quality assurance processes, ensuring our devices meet the highest industry standards.
  • Experience in working with product engineering teams to assess and enhance device performance at the product level.
