Reader Outreach Assistant | 100% Remote

We are looking for a thoughtful and organized Virtual Assistant to connect with beta readers, gather meaningful manuscript feedback, and coordinate reading groups for a nonfiction book.

This role is ideal for someone with strong written English, an interest in economics and ideas, and the ability to organize reader feedback clearly and accurately.

About the Role

You’ll identify and approach potential readers, relevant communities, and existing book clubs. You’ll coordinate reading groups, maintain communication with participants, and help turn readers’ reactions into useful, organized feedback.

Your main focus will be gathering, reviewing, and summarizing feedback. Editing skills are a plus.

This is a full-time, 100% remote position, working 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Identify potential beta readers, relevant communities, and existing book clubs.
  • Approach prospective readers through respectful, personalized outreach.
  • Invite book clubs to consider the manuscript and organize small reading groups.
  • Coordinate reading schedules, discussion sessions, and follow-ups.
  • Maintain an organized outreach tracker with reader responses and next steps.
  • Keep readers engaged and follow up to collect feedback.
  • Collect and organize readers’ comments, questions, disagreements, and suggestions.
  • Identify recurring concerns, confusing passages, and gaps in the manuscript.
  • Prepare clear summaries that accurately preserve readers’ meaning.
  • Distinguish feedback shared by multiple readers from individual preferences.
  • Identify areas that may benefit from clarification or further development.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong written English — required, including the ability to write personalized outreach and clear, accurate feedback summaries.
  • A genuine interest in economics, history, technology, and institutions.
  • Comfort reading and discussing complex nonfiction ideas.
  • Good judgment and the ability to welcome criticism, including perspectives you personally disagree with.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and reliable follow-through.
  • Ability to summarize feedback without changing its meaning or filtering out opposing views.
  • A proactive approach to finding suitable readers and maintaining relationships.
  • Ability to manage outreach, schedules, and follow-ups independently.
  • Availability to work 40 hours per week.
  • Experience with reader communities, book clubs, research, or author support is a plus.
  • Editing skills are a plus.
  • Familiarity with nonfiction covering economics, history, technology, or social systems is preferred.

Do NOT Apply If

  • You cannot confidently write professional outreach and summarize detailed feedback in English.
  • You have little interest in reading and discussing nonfiction about economics, history, technology, and institutions.
  • You are uncomfortable receiving or documenting criticism you personally disagree with.
  • You struggle to maintain organized records and follow up consistently.
  • You are looking exclusively for an editing role rather than reader outreach and feedback coordination.
