Thatcher Associates is a UK-based, employee-owned recruitment firm working across the white collar Construction and Property markets in the UK, the Caribbean and the USA. We are hiring a Resourcing Consultant in Cape Town to work alongside our consultants and take ownership of the candidate side of live assignments.

This is a delivery role, not a sales role. You will spend your time finding, speaking to and assessing the people who go on our shortlists. The consultants own the client relationship and run the process from interview stage onwards, so your focus stays on the candidate market.

The role

You will work across a mixed portfolio of live vacancies, typically five to ten at any one time, spanning site and commercial roles, technical and professional appointments, and senior hires in resort, hospitality and infrastructure projects.

Day to day you will:

• Take briefs from consultants and work out what a client actually needs, which is often different from what the job spec says
• Search and map candidate markets using our database (Recruiterflow), LinkedIn Recruiter, job boards and AI sourcing tools
• Run first-stage telephone and video interviews, recorded and transcribed using our AI note-taking tool, and write up clear, honest candidate summaries from them
• Format and present CVs to our house standard, using AI to do the heavy lifting and your own judgement to check the result
• Screen applications, check qualifications and right to work, and manage candidate expectations on salary, location and process
• Build and run outreach campaigns to passive candidates, and keep them warm for future roles
• Keep the database accurate and useful, so the next search starts further forward than the last one
• Hand over well-briefed shortlists to the consultant running the assignment, and stay close to those candidates while the process runs

Because our clients sit in three regions, no two weeks look the same. A Caribbean resort project, a UK main contractor and a US developer all hire differently, and you will learn the differences quickly.

Who we are looking for:

We are open on background. Recruitment experience is useful but not essential, and we have brought people in from customer-facing, research, teaching and administrative roles who have done very well. What matters more is how you think and how you speak to people.

You will need:

• Excellent spoken and written English, and the confidence to hold a professional conversation with a quantity surveyor, a project director or a hotel general manager
• Genuine curiosity about people, their careers and the markets they work in
• Strong attention to detail, particularly around notes, records and candidate information
• Comfort with technology, and interest in using AI tools properly rather than treating them as a novelty
• The self-discipline to manage your own workload from home without being chased
• The persistence to keep working a difficult search when the obvious candidates have already said no

Working arrangements:

• Fully remote, but you must be based in Cape Town and able to attend occasional in-person team catch-ups
• Your working day aligns with UK business hours, which run one to two hours behind Cape Town depending on the time of year. Expect to be available for UK clients through their afternoon
• You will need your own computer and mobile phone, a reliable internet connection, a quiet space to make calls and a backup plan for load shedding
• We provide the software, including our systems and the app you make your calls through, plus a monthly allowance towards your data and the use of your own IT equipment

We are a small team, friendly but focused. You will be trusted to run your desk without someone watching your screen, and in return we expect you to be straight with us about what is working and what is not. Objectives are set with you rather than handed to you, and we would rather you got three roles filled properly than eight half-done.
