Freese and Nichols is making a strategic investment in the continued growth of our water and wastewater treatment practice in San Antonio and South Texas. We are seeking a Regional Water/Wastewater Treatment Leader who can help expand our client relationships, develop our people, and deliver complex treatment projects throughout the region. This opportunity can be shaped around the strengths and experience of the right candidate. You may be an established technical or business leader looking for a platform to grow a regional practice, a senior project manager ready to take on greater leadership and client development responsibilities, or an emerging leader prepared to step into a broader role with strong mentorship and firmwide support. In this role, you will have the opportunity to influence the direction of our treatment practice in South Texas while remaining connected to project delivery, clients, and technical work. You will be backed by experienced client service leaders, technical experts, and multidisciplinary teams across Freese and Nichols, a firm that has served Texas communities for more than 130 years. Primary Responsibilities Build, lead, and mentor water and wastewater treatment professionals across multiple offices and disciplines. Help lead the growth of Freese and Nichols' treatment practice in San Antonio and South Texas, working closely with regional client service leaders and technical teams. Develop and strengthen trusted relationships with municipal and utility clients throughout the region. Identify and pursue strategic project and client opportunities, including participation in capture planning, proposals, interviews, and other business development activities. Serve as a client-facing leader while remaining actively engaged in project planning and delivery. Lead or oversee the planning, design, construction administration, and preparation of technical reports, plans, and specifications for water treatment, wastewater treatment, reuse, and advanced water treatment projects. Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations. Serve as a project manager, technical leader, principal-in-charge, or client service leader depending on project needs and the candidate's experience. Collaborate with Freese and Nichols subject matter experts on advanced treatment technologies and processes, including MBR, EBPR, membrane treatment, reverse osmosis, desalination, potable and non-potable reuse, and other emerging technologies. Contribute to the development of treatment staff, technical standards, best practices, and strategic initiatives across the firm. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline. Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain Texas licensure within six months. Significant experience in municipal water and/or wastewater treatment, including planning, design, and construction of treatment facilities. Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary projects, teams, or technical programs. Ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, colleagues, regulatory agencies, and project partners. Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills. Interest in contributing to client development and the continued growth of the treatment practice in San Antonio and South Texas. Preferred Qualifications 8+ years of relevant water and wastewater treatment experience; position level will be determined based on the candidate's experience and demonstrated leadership capabilities. Experience managing complex treatment projects, including projects with engineering fees of $1 million or greater. Experience developing client relationships and identifying, positioning for, or pursuing new work. Experience mentoring and developing engineers and technical staff. Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or a related discipline. Established relationships with municipal and utility clients in San Antonio or South Texas are a plus.
