Registered Nurse / Telehealth Nurse

FIG nurses are the clinical connection that keeps patients supported between consultations. FIG nurses undertake structured assessments, support onboarding, provide education and coaching, monitor treatment progress and side effects, coordinate investigations and follow-up, recognise deterioration and escalate clinical concerns to FIG doctors.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient assessment and onboarding
• Conduct structured telehealth nursing assessments in accordance with FIG protocols and document relevant health history, medications, allergies, symptoms and patient goals.
• Collect and verify relevant patient-reported information such as height, weight, BMI and home observations where appropriate.
• Undertake medication reconciliation and identify clinical red flags, contraindications or issues requiring medical review.
• Ensure patients understand the FIG care model, follow-up schedule and how to seek assistance.

Weight-management nursing

• Support patients through scheduled check-ins, monitoring weight trajectory, symptoms, adherence, wellbeing and treatment response.
• Assess for recognised medication adverse effects using approved protocols and provide medication-administration education within RN scope.
• Reinforce clinician-approved nutrition, activity, hydration and behavioural recommendations.
• Identify patients requiring earlier medical review and escalate concerns promptly; prescribing and dose changes remain the responsibility of an authorised prescriber.
• Encourage realistic, sustainable long-term health behaviour change.

Longevity and preventative health

• Support baseline health assessments and provide education around clinician-approved nutrition, physical activity, sleep and preventive-care goals.
• Coordinate pathology, imaging and other requested investigations and ensure results are routed to the appropriate FIG doctor for interpretation.
• Support patients to understand and implement clinician-approved management plans.

Priority care and triage

• Undertake structured nursing assessment of patients seeking priority-care assistance and recognise symptoms requiring immediate escalation.
• Apply FIG-approved triage, escalation and safety-netting protocols and facilitate prompt review by the appropriate doctor.
• Direct patients to emergency or face-to-face services in accordance with protocol and follow up selected patients where clinically appropriate.

Care coordination and patient engagement

• Act as a key link between patients, doctors and clinical operations, coordinating follow-up appointments and required clinical reviews.
• Assist patients to navigate pathology, radiology, pharmacy and allied-health services and track outstanding clinically significant actions.
• Explain care plans in clear, patient-friendly language and use motivational interviewing or health-coaching principles where appropriate.
• Identify barriers to adherence and work with patients and clinicians to address them.

Clinical governance and digital care

• Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical records and practise in accordance with AHPRA and NMBA professional standards.
• Work strictly within RN scope of practice and FIG clinical protocols, escalating diagnostic, prescribing and medical-management decisions to an authorised medical practitioner.
• Participate in incident review, adverse-event reporting, audit and quality improvement and maintain privacy and information-security requirements.
• Use FIG digital clinical systems confidently and contribute feedback to improve workflows, protocols and patient experience.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

• Current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse; minimum three years post-registration clinical experience preferred.
• Strong nursing assessment and clinical-reasoning skills, including recognition and escalation of clinical deterioration.
• Excellent communication, patient education, documentation, organisation and follow-up skills.
• Comfort working independently in a remote environment with high digital literacy and commitment to evidence-based, culturally respectful care.

Highly desirable

• Experience in general practice, primary care, urgent care, telehealth, virtual care, weight management, obesity care or chronic disease management.
• Experience supporting patients using GLP-1 therapies, preventative/lifestyle health, priority care or telephone triage.
• Care coordination, health coaching or motivational interviewing experience.

Scope of Practice

The FIG Registered Nurse provides assessment, education, monitoring, triage and care coordination within Registered Nurse scope of practice. The RN does not independently diagnose medical conditions, initiate prescription medicines, alter prescribed doses or interpret investigations for the purpose of making a medical diagnosis. Clinical concerns, adverse events, red flags and treatment decisions are escalated to an appropriately credentialled FIG medical practitioner.

What Success Looks Like

Patients feel supported rather than simply prescribed to. Follow-up occurs when it should, side effects and deterioration are identified early, patients understand their care plans, outstanding investigations are followed through, documentation is excellent and FIG doctors receive timely escalation of issues requiring medical review.
