Remote Litigation Attorney

We are recruiting on behalf of a US-based law firm for a qualified South African Attorney to join their team on a full-time, remote basis.

Role Title: Remote Litigation Attorney

Hours: Full-time (Remote, EST hours)

Rate: R32,000 - R45,000 (dependent on experirence)

As you will not be admitted to practise law in the United States, you will work in a high-level remote paralegal capacity, supporting the firm's attorneys across a range of commercial litigation, civil litigation and family law matters. This is not an administrative paralegal role. You will be entrusted with genuine responsibility, involved in complex legal matters and expected to make a meaningful contribution to the firm.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated attorney looking to undertake substantive legal work with an established and well regarded US law firm while working remotely during US Eastern Time business hours.

The firm is committed to investing in its people and has developed a structured training programme specifically designed to help South African attorneys transition successfully into US practice.

Responsibilities

• Support attorneys on federal, commercial and civil litigation matters.
• Draft legal correspondence, pleadings, motions and other court documents.
• Conduct detailed legal research and prepare memoranda and case summaries.
• Review and analyse evidence, disclosure and case materials.
• Assist with case strategy, litigation preparation and trial support.
• Support attorneys with family law matters where required.
• Liaise with attorneys and support staff to progress matters efficiently.
• Undertake other substantive legal and case management tasks as reasonably required.

Requirements

• Internet: Minimum 50 Mbps upload speed (fibre connection preferred).
• Admitted Attorney in South Africa. There is no minimum or maximum post admission experience required
• Experience in commercial litigation and/or civil litigation, ideally familiar with running your own matters and taking on real responsibility.
• Previous experience dealing with family matters is desirable.
• Strong legal drafting, research and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a remote team.
• Willingness to work full-time during 9am-5:30pm US Eastern Time.
