Remote | Military Writing Specialist — $40–$80/hour
24-MAGWe are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Military Writing Specialists with strong expertise in military writing, federal documentation standards, report generation and evaluation, grading-rubric development, Department of Defense procedures, and compliance-focused government communication to contribute to an advanced AI training and federal-reporting evaluation project.
Selected professionals will create realistic military and federal reports, develop high-quality reference responses, evaluate AI-generated documentation, and help define grading standards for effective government communication. The work requires direct familiarity with military reporting practices, strong written judgement, and the ability to distinguish stylistic and procedural differences across common federal documentation formats. No prior experience in AI is required.
Key Responsibilities
Military & Federal Report Development
- Create realistic military and federal status reports based on supplied prompts and source artifacts
- Develop summaries, executive updates, and operational reporting materials
- Apply appropriate structure, terminology, tone, and reporting conventions
- Maintain alignment with federal and military documentation standards
- Ensure outputs reflect realistic staff-writing practices
Golden Response Development
- Produce high-quality reference responses for AI training and evaluation
- Demonstrate strong reporting structure, clarity, and compliance
- Create examples aligned with established federal and military writing practices
- Adapt responses to different document types and operational contexts
- Maintain consistency between source materials, requirements, and final outputs
Rubric & Evaluation Framework Development
- Draft detailed grading rubrics for military and federal writing tasks
- Define standards for clarity, accuracy, tone, compliance, and completeness
- Translate expert staff-writing judgement into repeatable evaluation criteria
- Support consistent assessment across varied document types
- Refine guidelines as project requirements and model capabilities evolve
AI-Generated Report Evaluation
- Review AI-generated reports, summaries, and status updates
- Assess adherence to federal and military writing conventions
- Identify factual, stylistic, structural, or compliance-related issues
- Provide detailed written and verbal feedback
- Support iterative improvements to AI-generated government communication
Military Documentation & Staff Writing
- Provide context on stylistic differences across common military documents
- Work with Weekly Activity Reports (WARs), Situation Reports (SITREPs), After-Action Reviews, and executive summaries
- Produce supporting documents such as decision briefs, memoranda, and action officer updates
- Apply branch-specific terminology where appropriate
- Maintain consistency with authentic operational and administrative workflows
Collaboration & Quality Assurance
- Collaborate remotely with other subject-matter experts
- Compare different reporting approaches and branch-specific conventions
- Participate in feedback cycles to improve project materials
- Ensure deliverables reflect procedural accuracy and professional standards
- Support diversity of reporting styles while maintaining compliance with project requirements
Ideal Profile
- At least 3 years of relevant experience within the U.S. Department of Defense or a closely related federal environment
- Direct experience producing military or federal reporting documentation
- Demonstrated familiarity with WARs, SITREPs, After-Action Reviews, executive summaries, or similar formats
- Broad understanding of federal documentation standards and compliance best practices
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate technical or operational information clearly
- Experience creating or reviewing PowerPoint briefings, memoranda, spreadsheets, and related back-office documentation
- Experience grading or reviewing professional writing is highly valuable
- Familiarity with two or more U.S. military branches is advantageous
- Strong attention to procedural detail and reporting accuracy
- Comfortable collaborating remotely on structured and highly detailed assignments
- No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required

- Strong military-writing judgement and familiarity with federal reporting standards are central to this engagement
- Project scope, workload, document types, and evaluation standards may evolve depending on project requirements
- Work must be completed without using classified, controlled, confidential, or proprietary information belonging to any employer, government organisation, client, institution, or other third party
