Remote | Physics Expert (Gravitation / Cosmology / Astrophysics) — $80–$160/hour
24-MAGWe are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Physics Experts in gravitation, cosmology, astrophysics, and mathematical relativity with strong expertise in first-order Palatini gravity, tetrad and spin-connection formalisms, Dynamical Chern–Simons gravity, Pontryagin density, cosmological ODE systems, torsion, and Planck-unit normalisation.
Selected professionals will contribute to a frontier research-level physics benchmark spanning Dynamical Chern–Simons gravity, Palatini tetrad formulations, FRW cosmology, quadratic inflation, and related gravitational phenomena. Depending on expertise and seniority, contributors may participate as Solvers, Auditors, or Adjudicators. No prior experience in AI is required.
Key Responsibilities
First-Order Palatini Gravity
- Develop analytical solutions using first-order gravitational formalisms
- Work with independent tetrad and spin-connection variables
- Derive field equations within Palatini-based frameworks
- Analyse torsion and curvature contributions
- Evaluate the consistency of alternative gravitational formulations
Tetrad & Spin-Connection Analysis
- Work with tetrad-based representations of gravitational systems
- Derive and manipulate spin connections
- Evaluate curvature and torsion tensors
- Analyse local Lorentz structure and geometric consistency
- Verify sign conventions, indices, and normalisation choices carefully
Dynamical Chern–Simons Gravity
- Analyse gravitational models involving Chern–Simons modifications
- Evaluate parity-violating corrections where relevant
- Derive contributions associated with dynamical scalar couplings
- Assess how modified terms affect gravitational and cosmological evolution
- Review proposed solutions for mathematical and physical consistency
Pontryagin Density
- Calculate and interpret Pontryagin-density contributions
- Analyse their role in extended gravity theories
- Evaluate whether symmetry assumptions force terms to vanish or contribute non-trivially
- Check derivations for tensorial and sign consistency
- Connect formal expressions with their physical implications
Friedmann Equations with Torsion
- Formulate modified Friedmann equations in the presence of torsion
- Analyse cosmological dynamics under non-standard geometric contributions
- Derive coupled evolution equations for relevant fields
- Interpret departures from conventional FRW behaviour
- Evaluate physical consistency across different cosmological regimes
Nonlinear ODE Integration
- Solve coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations
- Select suitable analytical or numerical integration methods
- Evaluate stability and sensitivity to initial conditions
- Cross-check numerical results against limiting or approximate solutions
- Identify numerical artefacts or physically inconsistent trajectories
Planck-Unit Normalisation
- Apply Planck-unit conventions consistently
- Normalise theoretical and numerical quantities appropriately
- Verify dimensional consistency across derivations
- Translate between dimensionful and dimensionless formulations where required
- Ensure results remain comparable across benchmark tasks
Research Benchmark Evaluation
- Develop rigorous research-level solutions
- Audit analytical derivations and numerical implementations
- Identify conceptual, mathematical, or computational errors
- Compare alternative methods and interpretations
- Provide detailed written feedback grounded in gravitational and cosmological physics
Solver, Auditor & Adjudicator Responsibilities
- Serve as a Solver by independently developing complete technical solutions
- Serve as an Auditor by reviewing derivations, numerical work, and physical interpretations
- Serve as an Adjudicator when competing solutions require expert comparison
- Document reasoning and assumptions clearly
- Adapt responsibilities based on subfield expertise and seniority
Ideal Profile
- PhD or equivalent advanced research experience in Physics
- Strong background in gravitation, cosmology, astrophysics, or a closely related field
- Hands-on experience with first-order Palatini gravity
- Strong knowledge of tetrad and spin-connection formalisms
- Familiarity with torsion in gravitational theories
- Experience with higher-order or modified-gravity corrections
- Strong understanding of Pontryagin density
- Familiarity with Dynamical Chern–Simons gravity
- Demonstrated ability to derive and solve nonlinear cosmological ODE systems
- Strong numerical-integration skills
- Experience interpreting modified Friedmann dynamics
- Practical familiarity with Planck-unit normalisation
- Strong mathematical and analytical reasoning skills
- Ability to produce rigorous research-level written explanations
- No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required
