Remote Senior Backend Engineer

We are seeking a versatile Senior Backend Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain core backend APIs and services, primarily using Python and FastAPI.

Key responsibilities include:

• Translating complex workflows into clear domain models, data schemas, and reliable API contracts.
• Building integrations across geospatial, media, reporting, asset management, and third-party systems.
• Enhancing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and developer workflows.
• Developing ETL and data migration processes, especially for imagery and geospatial data.
• Contributing to cloud infrastructure design, security, performance, and reliability.

Qualifications and skills:

• 5+ years of backend development experience with proficiency in Python.
• Experience building production APIs with FastAPI or similar frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of relational data modeling, PostgreSQL, ORM libraries, and migration tools.
• Experience with AWS services, Docker, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to reason from first principles about architecture, data consistency, security, and operational failure modes.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.

Additional preferred skills:

• Experience in startup environments, infrastructure as code, observability tools, geospatial data, ETL pipelines, and modernizing legacy systems.
• Practical knowledge of AI coding agents and large-scale data processing.
