We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced electronics quality engineers with deep expertise in PCB assembly inspection, IPC standards, CAM and Gerber review, SMT/AOI defect analysis, counterfeit component detection, and semiconductor package inspection to contribute to advanced AI training and technical evaluation initiatives.

Selected professionals will review electronics manufacturing data, assess assembly quality against industry standards, analyse inspection defects, evaluate component authenticity and semiconductor packaging, and provide expert technical reasoning grounded in real-world quality-engineering practice. No prior AI experience is required; hands-on electronics quality expertise is the primary qualification.

Key Responsibilities

PCB CAM & Gerber Review

  • Review PCB CAM and Gerber files for manufacturability
  • Evaluate layouts against applicable quality requirements
  • Identify design or fabrication issues affecting production
  • Assess documentation for consistency and completeness
  • Provide practical recommendations for quality improvement

IPC Assembly & Harness Inspection

  • Perform evaluations using IPC-A-610 inspection criteria
  • Apply IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards to wire-harness assemblies
  • Assess workmanship and assembly quality
  • Identify unacceptable defects and nonconforming conditions
  • Document inspection findings with clear technical rationale

SMT & AOI Defect Analysis

  • Analyse surface-mount manufacturing defects
  • Review automated optical inspection results
  • Distinguish legitimate defects from AOI false calls
  • Investigate potential root causes behind inspection findings
  • Recommend appropriate corrective or process-improvement actions

Counterfeit & Semiconductor Inspection

  • Evaluate electronic components for counterfeit-risk indicators
  • Apply AS6081 principles to component-screening scenarios
  • Interpret C-SAM and X-ray semiconductor inspection results
  • Review die and package conditions for potential defects
  • Apply MIL-STD-883 considerations where relevant

Technical Reporting & Quality Collaboration

  • Prepare concise technical reports documenting inspection findings
  • Explain quality conclusions to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Provide clear recommendations supporting risk mitigation
  • Collaborate with project leads on workflow improvements
  • Contribute expert judgement to technical evaluation datasets

Ideal Profile

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in electronics quality, CAM engineering, or failure analysis
  • Strong background in PCB assembly, wire harnesses, or semiconductor packaging
  • Extensive knowledge of IPC-A-610 inspection criteria
  • Strong familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 requirements
  • IPC CIS or CIT certification is highly valued
  • Experience reviewing Gerber data and using PCB CAM software
  • Strong understanding of PCB manufacturability and quality assurance
  • Practical experience with SMT manufacturing processes
  • Deep familiarity with AOI defect analysis and false-call remediation
  • Direct experience with counterfeit-component screening under AS6081
  • Knowledge of counterfeit risk indicators and mitigation strategies
  • Hands-on experience with C-SAM and X-ray semiconductor inspection
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-883 procedures
  • Strong analytical and root-cause evaluation capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills
  • Ability to explain complex quality findings clearly and precisely

Engagement Details

  • Independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote
  • U.S.-based professionals are preferred
  • Compensation: $70–$120/hour
  • Work will involve PCB and Gerber review, IPC inspection, SMT/AOI analysis, counterfeit-component assessment, and semiconductor inspection
  • Assignments may reference IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, AS6081, and MIL-STD-883 standards
  • Contributors may review CAM data, assembly evidence, inspection imagery, and semiconductor package information
  • Strong professional judgement and precise technical documentation are central to the engagement
  • Project scope, electronics platforms, inspection scenarios, and applicable standards may vary depending on project requirements
  • Work must be completed without using confidential, proprietary, export-controlled, classified, customer-restricted, or otherwise protected electronics designs, manufacturing data, inspection records, or technical information belonging to any employer, manufacturer, client, government entity, institution, or other third party
