At KBR, we deliver science, technology and engineering solutions to governments and companies around the world. KBR employs approximately 37,000 people worldwide with customers in more than 85 countries and operations in over 28 countries. KBR is proud to work with its customers across the globe to provide technology, value-added services, and long-term operations and maintenance services to ensure consistent delivery with predictable results.

Trinzic is the future independent company to be created through the planned spin-off of KBR's Mission Technology Solutions business, expected in January 2027. Our people work at the frontier of what is possible, delivering solutions in challenging environments and advancing some of the world's highest-priority national security and space missions.

Backed by decades of mission success, deep expertise, and trusted partnerships, Trinzic will launch as a global organization with more than 18,000 employees supporting customers around the world. Join us at a defining moment and help shape the future of a company built to tackle complex challenges and make a meaningful impact.

Candidates who join KBR's Mission Technology Solutions business before the spin-off will transition to Trinzic when the separation is complete and will not need to reapply for employment.

Bringing together the brightest minds in science and engineering, with a culture that attracts innovators and difference-makers, our teams are dedicated to the progression of new USGS Science missions, data sets, workflows, and technologies that enable actionable science.

KBR’s Science and Space division is seeking a Scientist to support Landsat 10 mission and product development for our Technical Support Services Contract (TSSC) at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation & Science (EROS) Center (http://eros.usgs.gov/) near Sioux Falls, SD (http://www.siouxfalls.org).

This position relies on the application of fundamental remote sensing expertise to investigate the utility of ‘superspectral’ data from the planned Landsat 10 Instrument Suite (LandIS) across a range of Earth observation science and remote sensing applications. The work will support Landsat 10 mission development by assessing the continuity of Landsat observations with historical missions and the interoperability with other multispectral and imaging spectroscopy missions. The successful candidate will evaluate sensor characteristics, develop and apply applicable algorithms, and contribute to validation strategies for Landsat 10 observations and derived data products. The position will augment the Landsat Science Office with specialized applications expertise that complements an interdisciplinary team of project managers, scientists and engineers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical and scientific support for Landsat 10 mission development milestones, reviews, and related science activities
  • Conceptualize, develop, and execute science and application use cases that demonstrate the strengths and potential benefits of Landsat 10’s enhanced spectral and spatial resolution
  • Develop and maintain computational pipelines and processing workflows for Landsat 10 and Landsat 10-like data, including data preparation, analysis, visualization, and product generation
  • Participate in research and development activities related to quality assessment, atmospheric correction, and retrieval of surface geophysical parameters from Landsat 10 VSWIR and TIR observations over land and water
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of algorithms, methodologies, and validation approaches for Landsat 10 science and applications
  • Perform comparative assessments of observations and derived data products from multispectral and imaging spectroscopy instruments to evaluate cross-mission consistency and interoperability
  • Communicate scientific findings through technical reports, presentations, peer-reviewed publications.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Candidates must meet the requirements listed below to be considered for this position; please note required items on your resume.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain credentials for facility access and user accounts.

  • Education: Advanced Degree or equivalent experience in remote sensing, Earth Science, geography, or other relevant field
  • Years of Experience: Must have minimum 2-5 years of recent and related work experience in remote sensing
  • Demonstrated understanding of spectral remote sensing data, derived products, and applications
  • Demonstrated expertise in multispectral and hyperspectral imaging and analysis
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of radiative transfer and atmospheric modeling
  • Experience processing, visualizing, and analyzing in situ, airborne, and spaceborne remote sensing data
  • Competency with image processing software, such as but not limited to ENVI, ERDAS Imagine, and ArcGIS
  • Strong programming and scripting skills in Python, MATLAB, R, or comparable languages.
  • Proficiency with Git-based source code repositories and modern version control practices
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens to be eligible for consideration for this position.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Expertise with column water vapor retrieval and atmospheric correction of remotely sensed observations
  • Experience developing validation strategies and computational workflow for remote sensing data
  • Conversance with bidirectional reflectance concepts and applications
  • Experience with surface albedo retrieval and applications
  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows computing platforms
  • Experience with Cloud-based data processing, visualization, and analysis
