Remote Transmission Line Engineer

Job Title: Transmission Line Engineer Job Description The Transmission Line Engineer role sits within the transmission department and focuses on engineering and design activities that support utility customers. You will collaborate closely with senior engineers, in-house teams, and client engineers and designers to deliver complete transmission line projects from concept through construction. This position offers the opportunity to lead project tasks, contribute to critical infrastructure, and grow your expertise in transmission line design and high-voltage systems. Responsibilities Perform engineering and design activities for transmission line projects, including engineering analysis and design, route selection, material acquisition, structural and foundation design, and project and construction management. Prepare comprehensive project construction documents such as plan and profile drawings, design drawings, engineering, material, and construction specifications, project schedules, and bills of material. Develop project design alternatives and prepare corresponding cost estimates to support decision-making and project planning. Design new transmission facilities with voltages ranging from 12 kV to 765 kV, ensuring reliability, safety, and compliance with applicable standards. Utilize PLS-CADD to model and analyze transmission line design projects, optimizing performance and cost-effectiveness. Conduct contractor bid and construction meetings and assist in ensuring that work activities are performed safely, in accordance with plans and established schedules, and in compliance with internal policies, rules, standards, and external regulations. Coordinate effectively with governmental and regulatory agencies and contractors to secure project permits and approvals. Provide leadership to facilitate successful project completion, including training and mentoring other engineers and contributing to measurable work area goals and objectives. Function as a project lead for transmission projects, overseeing technical deliverables, schedules, and coordination across disciplines. Coordinate the work activities of others within the work group and department to ensure transmission projects are completed on time and to quality standards. Provide training, guidance, and technical support to lower-level employees to help develop their skills and knowledge. Initiate corrective actions when project objectives, particularly for substation-related elements, are not being met, and help bring projects back on track. Work under the supervision of higher-level engineers while progressively taking on more responsibility and complexity in project work. Conduct occasional site visits to review project conditions, support construction activities, and verify that designs are implemented as intended. Essential Skills Two to five years of experience in utilities working with transmission line design. Two to five years of experience completing engineering projects from start to finish, including planning, design, and implementation. Two to five years of experience scoping, estimating, and ordering materials for transmission line projects. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering; an ABET-accredited degree may be considered toward the required years of experience. Hands-on experience with transmission line design and high-voltage transmission systems. Proficiency with PLS-CADD for modeling and analyzing transmission line designs. Experience with design engineering in a utility or transmission-focused environment. Knowledge of civil engineering principles as they apply to transmission line structures and foundations. Ability to prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, schedules, and bills of material. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple project tasks and meet established schedules. Effective communication skills to work with in-house teams, client engineers, designers, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Ability to work under the supervision of senior engineers while independently managing assigned responsibilities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience using AutoCAD for design and drafting related to transmission line projects. Exposure to a range of transmission line design tools and engineering software beyond PLS-CADD. An Engineer-in-Training (EIT) license is desirable but not required. Demonstrated ability to lead project tasks and coordinate the work of others within a project team. Experience conducting contractor bid and construction meetings and supporting field activities. Ability to mentor junior engineers and designers and contribute to their professional development. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for evaluating design alternatives and cost estimates. Interest in working on critical engineering initiatives that support how utilities serve communities and advance infrastructure. Collaborative mindset and willingness to engage frequently in teamwork in an office environment. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Brentwood, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
