About The Information

The Information is the go-to source of in-depth reporting for the most influential leaders in technology and business. Founded in 2013 and headquartered in San Francisco, our original, high-quality journalism has the power to inform the most consequential decisions shaping our future, and we’ve built a community of 700,000 active readers who depend on us to do just that. We have a financially healthy business, plenty of capital, and big ambitions to grow our team and business.

About the role

The Information is seeking a reporter to break news and write high-impact stories about Apple at the most consequential moment in the company's 50-year history. Apple has a new chief executive, John Ternus, who faces big decisions about how to guide the world’s second most valuable company into its next chapter. The coming years could determine whether Apple's devices become the best place to use AI, or whether the AI era erodes the grip the iPhone has had on consumers and developers for nearly two decades.

We want someone who can get inside Apple to tell our readers about its next moves in AI, hardware, semiconductors, and services. Our readers include tech executives, investors, and the founders and engineers who build on Apple's platforms. They want to know what Apple will do before the rest of the market does. The reporter will break news, write deeply reported features and profiles, and help readers make sense of how a new era of leadership is changing the company.

We also want to elevate the reach and stature of our reporters. The reporter will have the opportunity to moderate at our conferences and appear on our streaming video show, TITV.

This reporter will join a team of collegial reporters who share tips and collaborate without the bureaucracy that characterizes big newsrooms, and will work closely with our reporters covering AI, chips, and big tech. Strong reporting is the pulse of our newsroom, fostered by editors and senior reporters who actively coach reporters on how to advance their reporting and writing.

What you'll do

  • Break news about Apple's strategy, leadership, product roadmap, and deals, including partnerships with AI companies and suppliers
  • Write in-depth profiles about Apple's most important leaders and the people shaping its ecosystem
  • Report on how Apple is positioning for the AI era, from its chips and on-device models to Siri and its relationships with Google, OpenAI, and others
  • Immerse yourself in the topic to write with authority and generate story ideas
  • Cultivate relationships with trusted sources inside and around Apple, including suppliers, developers, regulators and competitors
  • Contribute to editorial products such as org charts
  • Work with colleagues out of our three newsrooms

Qualifications

  • At least three years of business or technology reporting experience
  • A track record of scoop-based reporting in business, technology, finance, or politics
  • Ability to cultivate sources and develop a beat
  • Familiarity with major developments in tech, consumer hardware and AI over the last three years
  • Bachelor's degree
  • The ability to work out of The Information's San Francisco or New York office
