Request Status Entry Assistant

Customer Service / Request Status Records / Remote

Full-time
Pay: 58,240–61,360 per year

Make the current status visible

This remote position updates the administrative status of service requests from information supplied by the people handling them. A request may be waiting for a customer reply, assigned to another team, or completed under the employer’s process. Your job is to reflect that state accurately in an online tracker so colleagues do not rely on an old note.

Work from a confirmed source

A colleague might email that the customer has supplied a missing form. You would find the existing request, check that the form is attached, and update the relevant status according to instructions. If the colleague says only “handled,” ask what action was completed before selecting a final category. A request being forwarded does not necessarily mean the customer has received an answer.

Other updates may come through an internal queue. Compare the new information with the request history, enter the permitted status change, and leave a brief note of its source. When two updates conflict, pause and ask the responsible person which state is current. Do not change a record simply because the newest message arrived last; it may refer to an earlier stage.

A status change should come from a real event. An assigned colleague's acknowledgement, a customer's missing answer and a completed resolution are three different points in a request's life. If an update arrives without a reference, check the approved record before applying it. If the request was reopened, do not leave an old 'closed' label where another team will mistake it for final. The assistant does not judge whether the customer's problem has been solved; that assessment belongs to the person handling the case. Accurate office administration makes the online status useful to the customer service team.

Why the record matters

A customer service colleague may use the tracker to answer a follow-up question. If a request is labelled complete when it is still awaiting approval, the customer could receive a misleading answer. Clear office administration helps prevent that. Note what has actually happened and who owns the next step. Keep correspondence with the existing request rather than opening unnecessary copies.

Some requests have several parts. A document may have been received while an account question remains open. If the employer’s system supports separate subitems, follow its procedure. Otherwise flag the mixed status to the person responsible. The aim is not to force every case into a neat category; it is to make the next action understandable.

A request may move back and forth between a customer and an internal reviewer. Each update should reflect the latest confirmed event, not simply the identity of the last person who sent a message. If the customer supplies a form, that can change “awaiting customer” to “received for review,” but it does not automatically make the case complete. Record the distinction using the employer’s available statuses and refer a category that does not fit.

Fit for the role

Comfort with online forms or simple tracking sheets, close reading, and a willingness to ask when a status is unclear are useful. Prior customer service or office administration experience can help but is not required. Newcomers can learn the status categories and record system during onboarding. Experience keeping a project or shared list current in another setting can also be relevant.

The remote role involves request histories and customer details that should be handled privately. A home office or comparable workspace supports that work. The hiring company will confirm its actual hours, tools, and access instructions.

If a colleague reports that the customer was contacted, record the contact step without assuming the customer accepted the answer. A later reply may show that the request remains open.

Applying

Your application may show accurate data entry, organized follow-up, or experience passing information between people. A formal request-management title is not needed. We are interested in candidates who can distinguish a confirmed update from an assumption.

Applicants selected to move ahead may receive instructions to complete an application on the hiring company’s website. Someone new to this work can still be considered if they are ready to learn a defined process.
