Requirements Engineer & Software Engineer (m/f/d)
On-Board Software and System Requirements It is not only your code that flies with us. Your requirements take off too! We develop the next generation of communications and on-board software for satellite constellations. In doing so, we combine precise, model-based requirements engineering with modern embedded software development. Your profile bridges both disciplines: you develop requirements for complex avionics and communications systems and implement them in software yourself. We are looking for requirements engineers with a solid embedded software background who enjoy systems thinking and structuring complex topics, while also taking a hands-on approach to implementation.
Your Tasks
Requirements Engineering and Systems Engineering
- Specify, structure, and maintain software and system requirements for satellite control software
- Create and maintain interface, operational, and software requirements in accordance with ECSS standards
- Collaborate closely with avionics, systems, and software teams
- Contribute to architecture definitions covering data flows, on-board communication paths, protocols, and real-time mechanisms
Software Development
- Develop embedded software for satellite on-board systems using C/C++ or Rust
- Implement robust communication stacks and on-board protocols
- Contribute to test, validation, and verification strategies for space software
- Integrate modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, static analysis, and automated testing
- Support reviews and the preparation of compliance evidence in accordance with ECSS standards
Your Qualifications
- Experience in requirements engineering or systems engineering, for example with DOORS, Polarion, or SysML
- Sound knowledge of embedded software development using C/C++ and/or Rust
- Understanding of real-time systems, deterministic behaviour, and resource-constrained environments
- Knowledge of on-board communication standards such as SpaceWire, CAN, Ethernet, and serial protocols
- Experience in regulated development environments, for example under ECSS standards
- Very good command of English is mandatory
- Knowledge of German is an advantage
- A structured way of working, strong communication skills, and enthusiasm for space and a passion for your work
Nice to haves
- Experience with model-based systems engineering, including SysML, Capella, or other MBSE methods
- Experience with Rust or an interest in memory-safe systems programming languages
- Knowledge of LEON processors, ARM (Zynq/Versal), RISC-V, or other space-grade systems-on-chip
- Experience with static analysis, fuzzing, or property-based testing
- Contributions to technical guidelines or open-source projects
