Position Overview
We're looking for an APAC-focused Research Analyst who can turn deep technical and market insight into financial insight on datacenter and AI infrastructure across Southeast Asia and the broader Asia-Pacific region, for our institutional clients.
Key Responsibilities
Help build out APAC coverage in the SemiAnalysis Datacenter Industry Model. That means tracking the infrastructure buildout and strategy of hyperscalers, neoclouds, AI labs, and colocation developers across Singapore, Johor, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, India, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Australia.
Maintain a site-by-site tracker and forecast of APAC datacenter capacity, covering self-build vs. leasing, construction timing, power deliverability, and major AI compute clusters.
Follow the regional drivers of supply and demand: grid and interconnection constraints, power and water policy, moratoria and permitting regimes (e.g. Singapore's DC-CFA, Johor's water/power rules), land and tax incentives, export-control and data-sovereignty dynamics, and subsea cable and cross-border connectivity.
Publish short, data-heavy notes on the APAC datacenter and AI infrastructure developments, policy shifts, and competitive moves that matter most.
Talk with investor-relations teams, developers, utilities, EPCs, and other ecosystem players to deepen our understanding of individual companies and regional markets.
Support clients through calls and the SemiAnalysis support portal with timely, well-researched views on APAC developments.
Qualifications
1–5 years in equity research, investment banking, strategy consulting, or a datacenter/infrastructure industry role, with direct exposure to APAC markets or companies.
Solid working knowledge of the APAC datacenter value chain: key operators (e.g. AirTrunk, STT GDC, Princeton Digital, DayOne, YTL, NTT, CDC, Equinix, Digital Edge), hyperscaler footprints, and regional supply chains.
Willingness to dig through company filings, government and utility documents, permits, and local-language sources across markets, and turn them into forecasting assumptions you can defend.
Excellent writing: clear, analytical, and grounded in data, even when source information is incomplete or opaque.
Proven ability to build and defend bottom-up models from limited or fragmented disclosures.
Comfortable in a fast-moving news and policy environment, balancing speed with rigor.
Collaborative; you enjoy working closely with technologists and presenting nuanced views to sophisticated clients.
Nice to have: one or more regional languages (Bahasa Malaysia/Indonesia, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin), or an existing network across APAC developers, utilities, or capital providers.
Growth Areas
Own and build proprietary models, working up to full ownership of APAC datacenter and AI capacity forecasting.
Build expertise in APAC power, policy, and market structure, and turn regulations and disclosures into financial impact.
Deepen your technical AI infrastructure knowledge and connect power, cooling, and hardware constraints to business outcomes.
Lead high-impact, data-driven research publications.
Grow your industry network across the APAC ecosystem.
Push into new research areas in adjacent AI, cloud, and energy topics.
Mentor others and help scale team capabilities and internal frameworks.
