Research Scientist

Role Description The Research Scientist is a full-time, hybrid role based in Lokoja, with some flexibility for work from home. The role involves designing and conducting research projects aligned with the institution’s academic and developmental priorities, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation. The Research Scientist will prepare research proposals, secure ethical approvals where necessary, and collaborate with faculty, students, and external partners on multidisciplinary studies. Daily responsibilities include documenting findings, writing scholarly articles and reports, presenting results at seminars or conferences, and contributing to curriculum development through evidence-based insights. The role also includes mentoring students in research methods, supporting grant applications, and participating in departmental meetings and academic activities.
Qualifications

• Strong research design and analytical skills, including proficiency in qualitative and quantitative methodologies and use of relevant statistical or data analysis tools.
• Demonstrated ability to write clear, well-structured research reports, articles, and proposals suitable for academic and professional audiences.
• Experience in collaborative research, including working effectively with multidisciplinary teams, supervising student projects, and engaging with industry or community stakeholders.
• Competence in academic presentation skills, such as delivering lectures, seminars, and conference papers, and communicating complex ideas in accessible language.
• Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant scientific or technical discipline; prior research experience in a polytechnic or higher education environment is an advantage.
• Familiarity with research ethics, grant application processes, and institutional review procedures.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with capacity to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a hybrid work setting.
