The Center for Shared AI Prosperity (CSAIP) is hiring a Research Strategist to shape our research agenda on what Americans want from an AI-transformed economy. This is a senior role for someone who has driven ambitious research programs and who can turn public opinion, policy analysis, and stakeholder input into concrete frameworks that move policymakers, journalists, funders, and the public. Working closely with CSAIP's working group and board, the Research Strategist will set the direction of our research portfolio, work closely with external research partners, design and interpret research, and serve as a public-facing voice for CSAIP's findings. You will pair with technical research partners who will drive the quantitative work, freeing you to focus on the substantive policy and strategic questions. What You'll Do Research Direction & Strategy Set CSAIP's research agenda on the public's views, fears, and demands around AI's economic impact — including labor disruption, redistribution, social insurance, and the broader political economy of AI Design and oversee survey research, qualitative work, and message testing that captures what Americans actually believe and expect from public institutions in an AI-transformed economy Translate findings into rigorous, accessible policy briefs, white papers, and strategic memos that inform CSAIP's work and the broader policy conversation Partner with a technical research counterpart to scope, instrument, and interpret quantitative research — you bring the question, they bring the method Policy Analysis & Framework Development Develop and stress-test concrete policy frameworks responsive to the scale of AI-driven economic transformation, moving beyond diagnosis to actionable proposals Maintain situational awareness across the broader AI policy landscape — safety, competition, governance, privacy, election integrity — and identify where CSAIP's research can meaningfully contribute Track federal, state, and international AI policy developments and surface implications for CSAIP's agenda Stakeholder Engagement & Thought Leadership Serve as a public face for CSAIP's research, presenting findings to policymakers, journalists, funders, and convenings Build and steward relationships across CSAIP's growing coalition of economists, policy researchers, think tanks, labor leaders, and technologists Represent CSAIP at conferences, briefings, and events, positioning the organization as a trusted source on the political economy of AI Coalition & Partnership Building Work with technical and research partners — inside and outside CSAIP — to coordinate projects, share data and findings, and avoid duplication Identify gaps in the existing AI economic policy research landscape and recruit collaborators to fill them Support the working group and board on stakeholder briefings, funder conversations, and strategic planning About You 6+ years of experience driving research programs in policy, advocacy, polling, academic, or think-tank settings, with a track record of moving from research question to published findings to real-world influence Deep fluency in survey research and polling methodology — you don't need to pull the crosstabs, but you know what good instrument design looks like, what the data can and cannot say, and how to interpret it responsibly Strong policy chops, particularly on economic policy (labor, social insurance, tax, redistribution) and/or technology policy (AI governance, competition, safety) Exceptional writer who can translate technical research and policy concepts into compelling language for political audiences and the general public Comfortable presenting to elected officials, funders, journalists, and organizational leadership Strong understanding of the U.S. political ecosystem and how research moves through it A self-starter who can set direction at a young organization without constant oversight Collaborative — comfortable partnering with technical researchers, advisors, and a small working group, and generous about sharing credit Bonus Points Existing relationships across the policy research, think tank, philanthropic, or progressive political ecosystems Experience commissioning or directing public opinion research at scale Working familiarity with the AI and machine learning landscape — what the technology can and can't do today, and the trajectory it's on What We Offer Salary: $125,000–$200,000 Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage Work setup: Remote, with regular in-person collaboration and travel for stakeholder engagement. Most of our work happens on East Coast time. Impact: Your work will shape one of the most important domestic policy conversations of the coming decade — what Americans demand from an economy transformed by AI, and what concrete policy responses can meet that moment Autonomy: A senior seat at a new organization, with the ability to set the research agenda and help shape the institution from the ground up About the Center for Shared AI Prosperity The Center for Shared AI Prosperity is a research coalition working to refine and compare progressive visions for a U.S. economy in which AI has replaced and disrupted a large number of jobs. AI capabilities are advancing faster than the political system is responding, and Americans are demanding a new economic vision for a world fundamentally transformed by this technology. CSAIP exists to listen — to ask what Americans actually believe, fear, and expect from public institutions as work is destabilized, and to support and evaluate concrete, implementable policy ideas for ensuring the gains from AI flow to every American. Our work is guided by three principles: solutions at the scale of the challenge, listening to the American people, and soliciting and sharing great ideas. Candidates must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States.
