PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Working within a centralised group of Resource Schedulers, you'll look after the day-to-day and the forward planning of schedules for staff in a wide range of teams within BBC News.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

Joining the team as a Resource Scheduler offers a unique opportunity to play an important role in supporting the efficiency and effectiveness of the Central Scheduling Team across News. The role works across a wide range of content, digital and output teams, and you may be expected to move between teams so we can manage the work appropriately across our structure. With your broadcast and operational expertise, attention to detail, and ability to thrive under pressure in a 24/7/365 setting, you'll be a key driver in delivering agile staffing solutions and adapting to last-minute changes. The variety and pace of the role make it an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working with people, and contributing to the successful delivery of BBC News. If you're proactive, solutions-focused, and passionate about supporting high-quality news output, this is the team to join.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Responsible for ensuring that the business workload is met by suitably skilled and experienced staff and acting as a point of contact for queries and requests from the teams you schedule and other stakeholders.
  • Liaising closely with programme output teams, the business community, and your Senior Resource Scheduler and/or Business Advisor to ensure scheduling best practice is followed at all times in accordance with BBC Terms and Conditions and HR policies, while administering and managing all associated documentation.
  • Use systems such as Allocate, Teampay and Smartbook, including month end overtime processes and financial administration relating to payments for staff and freelance effort.
  • Forward plan schedules and respond to on-the-day changes to provide efficient staffing for required shifts, including contingency planning in line with programming strategy and priorities agreed with your Business Advisor.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Strong administration experience, including demonstratable experience of managing staff rotas, 24/7 staff scheduling and other complex admin tasks.
  • Proven ability and expertise in using staff scheduling and other BBC systems (e.g Allocate, Teampay, Smartbook) and experience of adopting new workflows and carrying out business processes to a high standard.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritise in fast paced environments.
  • Strong understanding of workforce wellbeing responsibilities in rota planning and Working Time Directive compliance.
  • Builds positive relationships and communicates clearly, confidently, and professionally with stakeholders at all levels.

DESIRABLE
