Job Description The Reverse Engineer will be responsible for assisting the R&D team with understanding how systems work and identifying security vulnerabilities in those systems. The reverse engineering work is focused on embedded platforms and requires hardware and software reverse engineering skills. The individual will assist in the development of receivers and transmitters for undocumented wireless protocols by analyzing the software and firmware used to implement those protocols, usually without the availability of any source code. The individual will perform vulnerability research against various drone platforms and will use conventional software reverse engineering tools like IDA Pro, Ghidra, as well as many custom in-house reverse engineering frameworks and tools that are constantly evolving to suit the needs of the team. Responsibilities Identify and analyze system architectures related to the consumer drone industry worldwide Contribute as a member of the multifaceted R&D team Assist software development teams with incorporate new developments into products Employ a variety of software and hardware tools to understand all layers of the communication stack for common and proprietary wireless protocols Mandatory Qualifications Hands on experience with physical layer modern radio hardware and Software Defined Radios (SDRs) Extensive experience with programming languages such as C, C++, and Python Experience with SDR tools (GNU Radio, Liquid DSP, Soapy SDR, etc.) Thorough understanding of signals, modulation schemes, data encoding, scrambling, and modern wireless communication protocols (Wi-Fi, WiMAX, LTE, FHSS, FSK, PSK, OFDM) Experience and thorough understanding of the Linux operating system and software development in a Linux Environment Experience with reverse engineering tools like IDA Pro and Ghidra Experience with x86 and ARM assembly language programming Experience and thorough understanding of embedded systems Preferred Qualifications Experience performing reverse engineering and vulnerability analysis of wireless network communications Experience with analog video Experience programming and analyzing FPGAs (VHDL/Verilog) Experience in the InfoSec industry Familiarity with modern cryptanalysis techniques Hands-on experience with developing Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms for Wireless Communications Familiarity with lab test equipment (logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, etc.) Familiarity with forward error correction (FEC) schemes like turbo codes, LDPC, etc. Developing custom tailored reverse engineering tools, scripts, and frameworks Experience with uncommon/undocumented instruction set architectures Experience with processor emulation (QEMU, Unicorn engine, etc.) Compensation Competitive salary offered Company stock options Health, Vision, Dental, Life, and AD&D Insurance 401K match and Roth IRA options Unlimited PTO Location Los Angeles, CA or San Luis Obispo, CA (willing to consider remote applicants) About WhiteFox WhiteFox, a drone airspace security company, is pioneering the safe integration of drones into society.
