What Your Day Will Look Like:

As a Roadway Design Engineer, you will apply engineering principles, technical expertise, and sound judgment to the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects under the mentorship of senior engineers and project managers. In this role, you will support the development of roadway, highway, complete streets, and multimodal transportation designs from concept through final design, contributing to geometric layouts, roadway alignments, grading, drainage coordination, maintenance of traffic plans, and construction documentation. You will perform engineering analyses, prepare technical reports and design calculations, develop plans and specifications, and ensure project deliverables meet applicable standards, including agency requirements and guidelines. As your experience grows, you will take increasing ownership of design tasks, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, participate in client and stakeholder interactions, support project schedules and budgets, and contribute to quality control efforts. This position offers the opportunity to expand your professional judgment, strengthen your technical capabilities, and progress toward becoming a trusted technical resource and project leader within the transportation practice.

Projected Compensation: $85,000 - $125,000/year CAD

What You'll Do:

  • Prepare, develop, and review roadway, highway, and multimodal transportation design plans, technical specifications, engineering calculations, and reports for projects of varying complexity.
  • Apply established engineering principles, industry best practices, and applicable federal, state, and local design standards to ensure accurate, compliant, and constructible project deliverables.
  • Perform roadway geometric design, horizontal and vertical alignment development, corridor modeling, grading design, and related engineering analyses to support project objectives.
  • Develop construction plans, engineer’s estimates, quantity calculations, and cost estimates while assisting with project documentation and design package preparation.
  • Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including drainage, traffic, structures, utilities, environmental, and survey professionals to deliver integrated transportation solutions.
  • Support communication and coordination with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders by assisting with meetings, presentations, technical correspondence, and project reviews.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control reviews by checking plans, calculations, and technical documents, addressing review comments, and helping maintain consistency with project requirements and company standards.
  • Provide engineering support during bidding and construction phases by responding to requests for information (RFIs), evaluating field conditions, reviewing submittals, and assisting in the resolution of design-related issues encountered during construction.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • 4-10+ years of transportation engineering experience
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng)
  • Proficiency in Microstation ORD, AutoCad, and Civil3D software.
  • Proposal writing/marketing experience is a plus.
  • This hybrid job operates between an office environment and a field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones and copy machines. May require occasional exposure to work environments that may include inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazard, atmospheric conditions, and bodies of water, depending on project requirements.
  • While performing the duties of this job, physical demands of the employee include frequent sitting, moving, standing, talking, hearing, and occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling. This job may occasionally require operating a company vehicle, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 35 lbs.
